Got the nice 3 pt stroke, pull up jumper, and can drive to the basket. Defense don't know?
Undecided
Year 2022 (HS JR)
Position SG
Height 6-5

Hometown Powell, OH
High School Olentangy Liberty High School

Awfully slender.
His defense must be a plus, Prep Hoops calls Davis
"Davis is one of the top shooting prospects in the class and his fit on this Nova team is perfect. Davis is a prime example of a 3 and D player that will be ready to produce from day one at the college level."
meh, nice shot but wasn't all that impressed by the video I watched when we first offered. that said he has been a late rising recruit so if he's on a growth spurt or upward trajectory of improvement he could continue to get a lot better. this puts some of the unproven wings on this year's roster on a bit of notice since we have no open scholarships. i'd assume someone from the farmer, wilson, eoppersen trio of frosh will be nudged out to make room.

fwiw, verbal commits continues to list UT as his only D1 offer

edit: ok, here's his most recent video.

i also rewatched his jr year mix tape. what jumps out is the consistency of form, angle, release on his shot. it's a highlight reel, soooooo, but he really shoots a pure soft ball. also maintains his form and stroke with a hand in his face, which is something some players struggle to develop. looks like he's still growing. lots of blocked shots on his reel too. not sure how much of that translates from mid level ohio high school basketball to D1, but it shows well for his instincts on defense.

certainly, a lower profile recruit, but a kid we've seen a lot since he plays on the AAU/tourney circuit with our other recruit. i won't complain about a kid with a great stroke and some size who likes to play defense. under the rim players like him tend to be underrated. that's not to call him unathletic. just that guys who make plays above the rim get more hype and attention as recruits. davis is first and foremost a catch and shoot player-that translates to D1, especially in our system. he won't dunk on anyone but he moves well and isn't soft.
Here is a tweet about Cooper Davis from Corey Albertson of Triple Double Prospects, an Ohio high school basketball website:

"Toledo picks up one of the state’s most skilled wing guards in Cooper Davis of Olentangy Liberty."
So am I right this puts UT at negative-2 scholarships for '22 now. Anybody taking a poll on who won't be back?

Also, I see Burge is now listed on the roster - he wasn't for a while and I was wondering about that.
The guy is from the same HS as Ben Roderick former Ohio HS player of the year and starter on Ohio U team last year. Roderick is a different type player, but shows transitioning from that program to the MAC isn’t a astronomical jump.
Corcoana and Moss

Doubt Moss will be one to leave.

Have you heard anything about Carcoana? I like his game. He and Edu are the only two on the team with any size and who knows about Edu's future.
I'd guess Hill and Eopporsen, although I'm hoping the Icelander proves me wrong. I get the sense Moss is in the rotation and he's a team first kinda guy, so I think as long as he's getting minutes he hangs around (remember Coach K stuck with him when he was accused of some pretty bad criminal charges. it would have been easier to cut ties, but letting the process play out was worth it as he was exonerated of all the serious stuff. that builds loyalty). Jacobi will need to prove he belongs. Farmer and Wilson are battling for off guard bench minutes, whoever loses that battle will be seeing minimal floor time and with a good shooter coming in (Davis) things won't get easier.
Kids got a great shot. If you can shoot you will play.

Ted Williams re-boot…. One can hope.

As to who will not return - Edu is a big question. There is a possibility he will not play again but I believe the staff is hopeful. The Euro kid is such a huge unknown. We will likely lose one of the guards and then it’s an unknown.
Pono…. I know coach K loves Moss’ skill set. Your analysis is spot on. I just mentioned Moss because of PT issues vs personal perceived talent. I hope he is in rotation.

Damn - I hope we’re a solid 8 deep - maybe 9. I just don’t know if we can win consistently at 7. We did last year. When was last time we had a solid 8 man rotation? We would have last year if Hill wasn’t injured. I’m not sure how much PT he would have seen in crunch conference play. We need improvement on inside play. Richmond was embarrassing. Such an exposure. I so hope Edu can return ASAP. Will he heal in time for ‘22 conference play or is he a due back in one year ????

Go Rockets!
my angle on it is that the only way you win is if you play 9 or 10 guys and use that depth to play harder to compensate for lack of size. the way i see it starting the seaons

1)RayJ Dennis is pg: 2)Hill and 3)Rollins play pg minutes too

Rollins is one sg

4)Saunders is another sg

5)Moss, 6)Wilson and Dennis play sg minutes (Farmer?)

7)Shumate and 8)Milner start as the forwards

Moss, 9)Carcoana play forward minutes ( Jacob?i or Eopporsen?)

*Edu may be on track to be cleared for full speed play by March. Not sure if that means he will be ready to suit up by then or how helpful he'd be thrown into a MAC tourney game after missing basically 2 1/2 years of competition.

My thinking is Dennis and Rollins will be a quality 1 2 backcourt sharing ballhandling, playmaking, attacking and scoring and Hill will be the pesky changer up defender for 8-10 minutes a game off the bench. that still leaves some backup minutes and I think Wilson is the likely player. has that combo guard game to fit in with Dennis or Rollins. and the fact that he came in early and made a defensive impression in pickup games suggests he gets it. or we could see Moss slide down into a ballhandling and attacking guard role a bit.

Saunders has basically been a 20 minute a game player for 2 years. this is the year he either steps up a level or clearly plateaus out. he added more attacking the rim off the dribble or rebound last season. if he can add a bit more on defense this season he should play closer to 30 min. so there's still 10-15 guard/sf minutes here to get-probably mostly for Moss.

Milner and Shumate will play a good 30 min per game each so there's only 15-20 inside bench minutes and I think you got Carcoana, Moss or maybe Jacobi getting those. My hope is the staff got it right and Carcoana is really good and develops into a solid bench player quickly. This will allow us to alternate between small ball and playing with a true frontcourt. I suppose if the Icelander measures to a feisty 6-7 and knocks down 3s he will get some stretch 4 minutes.

Hopefully, we keep the rest of our health and AJ makes a full recovery and regains his form-this season or beyond.

Who gives a flying fart about that. All I care about is this season what plays out this season. That will be what decides what happens next year.
