Only a few games this week as we start to delve into conference play. But still some intriguing matchups. Did really good Week 1. Then stunk it up week 2. Time to rebound for week 3:

Saturday
SMU @ La Tech 2:30PM CBSSN
ECU @ Marshall 5:00PM CBSSN on Facebook
ODU @ Liberty 5:00PM ESPN+
Troy @ Southern Miss 6:00PM ESPN+
Charlotte @ Ga State 6:00PM ESPN+
FIU @ Texas Tech 6:00PM B12/ESPN+
Rice @ Texas 7:00PM LHN

4 or 5 wins would be great. My guess is we only win 3 of these.
I think 4.25 is the maximum number here. I do not think it is reasonable to expect Rice or FIU to win. ODU's chances at Liberty are slim at best. Also, I have serious doubts about LaTech's defense. So, I am happy at 4. I am ecstatic at 5.
ECU is the team that I most like to play, and have felt that way for years. In many of our recent games, this has been an important game for both teams, and a rivalry game. I think you throw out history and expect a hard fought game where either team can pull out a win. I DO think that we have the ability to beat the Pirates, but we have to iron out some consistency issues that cropped up last week.

That being said, I do think that a realistic view of this week would be 2 wins on that list, but not a given. I'd be over the moon with 4.

Well don't. LA Tech's defense is fine. Very good actually. It's just weird that Tech's 2021 schedule began with two teams who threw the football for a combined 106 pass attempts in only 2 games. That's insane. Plus, SMU Coach Sonny Dykes is known for throwing the ball a lot too. However, I was relieved to see SMU only threw the football 33 times against UNT last week. All this passing.....Hell of a way to start the season.

By contrast, FAU's first two opponents this season only threw the ball a combined 48 times. Georgia Southern threw the ball 21 times and Florida threw it 27 times. Likewise, UAB's first two opponents --Jacksonville St (34) and Georgia (22)-- passed for a combined 56 passes. Those are "cakewalk" numbers compared to what Tech just faced.

I haven't checked the stats of all CUSA teams to date, but I highly doubt anybody in CUSA has faced the high number of pass attempts and quality QBing that LA Tech has faced so far this season. And I seriously doubt LA Tech will face back to back "passing" weeks again like the past two.

You do realize that passing is just one of the facets of the offense, right? There is also the one where a player actually carries the rock. What is it called?
I’m confused how number of passes thrown against you determines the ability of your defense. Is your thought that it’s easier to defend the run? If throwing the ball all the time made a defense more vulnerable, wouldn’t every offense throw the ball all the time?
USM is improving, but we won't have enough offense to hang with Troy.
Hope I’m wrong, but I don’t see this as being a positive weeks results. 2 or 3 wins tops
I see 2 with a possible 3rd.
5 is unlikely but not out of the realm of possibility.
4 is very possible.
3 is realistic.
2 would be a big disappointment
1 would be a disaster
Marshall is the only team favored of those seven, you guys should get rich if you really believe you’ll win four of those.

That's what I would bet. The conference is better this year, but many of these are mismatches.

Yes, we are probably favored to win only two of these (Marshall and, I believe, Charlotte), but another three are not totally impossible as they would be last year.

You're right with this. I would like to see it happen but I guess I'm just keeping expectations low in order to be nicely surprised.

Play UF and UGA = cakewalk. Give up 42 points to SE Louisiana = very good defense. Am I missing something here?

Yep - SMU opened as 15 favorite and the line has only moved a little in our favor to 13 and we are playing at home. Still some bad blood between Tech and Sonny and I'm sure he hasn't forgotten the beat down we put on SMU in a bowl a couple of years ago in his first game at SMU. It should make for an interesting game

Have you seen the SBC schedule this week? As my UK friends say: truly rubbish, mate.

What's your point? We haven't seen hardly any running game from either of our first two opponents. I was trying to point out the absurdity of playing two passing teams like this that threw the ball 106 times in back to back weeks. Both had (or have) very good QB's who toss the rock a lot. LA Tech's defense won't see a better quarterback the rest of the year than what we saw last Saturday night.

Just a reminder, LA Tech didn't lose to the FCS.

Absolutely. Combine a GREAT QB with 60 passes in a single game and it will be tough on any defense. Are you denying that?

I' expected more than this from you banker. Some of these posters are dumber than cardboard, but I had you pegged for being smarter than the average bear.
