49-0 to Purdue
No, it’s just a ****ty program that needs to drop back to FCS.
Look every reasonable/knowledgeable fan knew that the move to the BE was going to result in the football program going back to FCS. UConn did what it had to do to save its hoops. Not what I would've wanted from my Alma but I can understand the thinking given how bad their football is/has been.
You'd think that, but with the Big East move the state of the football program isn't any sort of athletic-department-wide crisis anymore. Basketball's protected, so football can be awful on an island without impacting everyone else.

UConn would be stuck in a now watered down american that would be like a 2 bid league. Also I am not so sure UConn wont muck about as an indy with UMass for eternity or ultimately pay the MAC to add them as FB-only(which they should have done).

I mean my post acknowledged that they made a good move based on what their priorities are (i.e hoops > football). But there were definitely people trying to spin the move as a big brain play to get into the P5.

I mean, you look at how 2014-2020 went for UConn and it doesn't make an invite any less likely. Football fell apart in the American, that conference isn't any sort of magic bullet.
UConn is not dropping to FCS.

We'll see
As a fan of the old BE FB conference from right after it's inception one of the best games (most entertaining with the best storyline) i've seen was the Rutgers @ UConn in 2009 after the UConn DB Jasper Howard was stabbed to death and his childhood friend Tim Brown of Rutgers caught the game winning miracle TD to beat his team.

UConn was a pretty decent team for a bit there and they had quite a rivalry brewing with Rutgers because of games like this.

I'm afraid even MAC membership is a non-starter for UConn because of how low level of a FB team they have right at the moment.
I miss the old Big East…. **** Cuse’. Good riddance thrashing that offense today.
So UConn has now played 8 quarters against FBS opponents, and has been out-scored 94-0.

And in both games, the final score was deceptively close.

Even for a guaranteed home and home every year in mens and womens basketball plus some baseball series? I imagine there is some middle ground agreement the two sides could reach.

The Old Big East was another animal than the 'Bulk & Skull' looking new big east. The new big east has not been able to feed its bigger brands like a big boy, so it's kind of a quirky looking line-up of mid-majors from different regions. If Villanova wouldn't have been there the American was stronger.

No. The MAC has moved on from the FB only arrangements. Back when they agreed to Temple it was before they had the midweek MAC deal so they wanted TU to get it going.

With Temple as the 13th that led to the UMass call up and the all-sport invites to UMass/JMU which didn't happen because UMass declined. MAC was fine getting rid of UMass with its low level of FB performance just like the SBC nixed NMSU.

UConn's campus stadium was razed years ago. You don't play FCS in a 40,000 seat stadium unless you're the SWAC or the Ivy.

Then they'll play their games in a different stadium
