With the Sunbelt announcing their own “aggressive” expansion.
Then the ULL (Louisiana) AD talking about how The Sunbelt has more to offer than the American.

It looks like The Sunbelt didn’t get invited to the AAC and is doubling down as being a better “P6” conference. Or App State, Coastal, and ULL got together and decided they weren’t interested.
Statement on realignment from the @SunBelt, which describes itself “the best non-autonomy FBS conference in the country.”

The B12 is also hosting another round of expansion in a few years. This likely blocks The AAC from poaching any MWC schools. Why would you move to the AAC when you have a chance to go P5?

So with The Sunbelt challenging for the “P6” title and the MWC waiting on the Big12. All the AAC expansion schools are going to be from C-USA or FCS.

UAB, Marshall, LaTech, Rice is my prediction. But you obviously have Southern Miss, UNT, ODU, Charlotte, and FAU as well.
LOL
SMU fans can laugh, but they are likely stuck for the same reasons Tulsa is stuck, unless they both like the MWC. I felt North Texas made a lot of sense. Certainly UAB and Rice. Most of the meat is still in Conf USA.
Why is a La Tech fan hyping the Sun Belt?

you are using overall conference/commissioner quotes to define the individual teams... by this logic the aac was going to be raided by the big 12 as the aac made similar remarksbefore being raided

But the ULL AD came out against the AAC basically. It’s not just commissioner quotes. Why would you do that if you where considering moving to that conference.

It’s projection. Shrinking budget, shrinking market, going backwards academically. The Rustonians are in a bind. If they do not get the AAC invite they will really struggle because the SBC has 4 teams identified, has the votes and ready to move. They aren’t one of them. Neither is any of the former SBC programs.

So if the AAC takes 4 of ODU, Charlotte, UTSA, UAB, UNT, FAU, FIU or UAB. Then they are screwed.

Regardless of the ULL AD's view may be, the American will almost certainly have a lot more $$ to offer with respect to broadcasting revenue.

The AAC Commissioner's recent statement indicates that ESPN intends to provide enough revenue to persuade the strongest G5 candidates to join the AAC. This probably means that schools such as App. State, Louisiana, and Coastal could earn ~$4 million/year in broadcasting revenue from ESPN.

That should be enough to convince the top SBC schools to make the move.
The AAC is going to be weaker. The best and surest way to ensure that it stays as the 6th best fb conference is to weaken its competition by taking their best programs.

This must be the attempted strategy as anything else leaves the door open. The AAC must have 3-4 teams each season reasonably capable of grabbing the NY6 slot - if it loses its grip on that slot it loses its #6 spot. Yes, it really is just this simple.
Do the OP miss where the AAC said the same thing and then the Big 12 ate our lunch.

Ya, the same **** is gonna happen if the AAC decides it wants any cusa, sunbelt or MAC team.

We currently make 14 times what any of those conferences make on a per team basis. Sunbelt can rattle their sabers all they want but there’s a pecking order and none of those three conferences are anywhere near on top.

The only competition it matters to weaken is the MWC. CUSA is so weak it doesn’t matter, and while I like what the Sun Belt has built if they ever became a real threat you could raid them later.

You have a lot of animosity toward LaTech haha.
I never thought I’d have to explain it but I’m from Louisiana and Texas. I thought LaTex sounded funny. I’m not really a LaTech fan. I had a family member go there. Who is into stats that I steal. But I like another team more. Which I’m not going to say after this. Haha

The AAC will remain stronger than the other G5 conferences when it replaces UCF, Cincy, and Houston with schools such as App. State, Louisiana, and Marshall.

It has the support of ESPN, which will provide the broadcasting revenue to convince the best G5 schools to join what is and is likely to remain a Major 7 conference.

I did not, but this is slightly different. As a mentioned in my post, I think The Sunbelt schools got word they weren’t finalists and went on the offensive. I think ULL got blocked by Tulane, and App State was blocked by the private universities who prefer strong research universities.
Unless the AAC TV contract goes from 7M to 500K, the AAC will take whichever team they want.

Well whoever the AAC 'wants' needs to be the best fb programs available. AAC must maintain its grip on the NY6 slot.

At the same time with UConn, Houston, and Cindy gone basketball just got fukked. So, while at least 3 of the 4 new schools need to be playing at or near t25 fb, one of them needs to be t25 bb.

Nice if one of the 3 fb schools is also t50 bb.

I think it’s possible the AAC adds another very strong basketball only school that they can poach from A10 or MVC.

Then add 3/4 football members. UAB has a consistent BB program, as does ODU.

Our O.P.:
1. Wears latex
2. Roots for “Chaos”
3. Included Rice in their list.

If you’re not already a Rice fan, we’re adopting you
