They said they are hearing who the AAC top candidates are. These guys knew who the BIG 12 was adding before anybody else. The top candidates are!

UAB
Air Force
Army
Charlotte
North Texas
Coastal Carolina
Arkansas State

The list in order of interest. Supposedly our new AD played a big part in creating the AAC when he was at Memphis.
Amazing how all over the place people's thoughts are on this (other than the constant of UAB at the top).
UNT lol

These guys have been spot on but I will wait a few weeks after Cincinnati, UCF and Houston announce they are leaving to see who the AAC are really after.

Yeah, they very easily could have the inside info here. We may never know who's just guessing and who actually has insight when it comes to the almost-invites.

In the words of Curly Bill Brocus, "Well, bye." We enjoyed our last two games with y'all.
According to Steward Mendel, App is one.

Who knows? Mike Aresco.
No GaSt, no Louisiana, no App St???

UAB checks all the boxes.
- academics
- facilities
- football and basketball success
- brand recognition
- airport

No other theoretical candidate really checks every single one. That’s why UAB is a constant on all of these lists
there is no way astate is on the first list (and i’m an astate alumni/fan)

definently UAB, I would think North Texas gets a look, La tech and everyone else in CUSA will try really hard, I think Boise will get courted by I just don’t know if they would jump
At this point we are just reshuffling the chairs in the G5. Will the AAC bring more money? Yes but with the departures for the B12 it won t be a huge amount more. For fans the AAC is scattered all over the country so costs will go up. At this point i m not even sure it is worth it. Sort of would suck that just as the Sun Belt was starting to move up in the G5 hierarchy that teams start leaving. Oh well if teams leave so be it.
The AAC will be a much weaker conference after the departures no matter who they add

Yup. Basically the G5 has been leveled again. Everyone is on equal footing.....sort of.

To quote George Orwell.
Some are more equal than others

Crouching Tiger...
The way I see it the American has three viable options.

1. Add 2 full members that are strong in both basketball and football.

2. Add 4 full members getting the best basketball or football brands that can be lured in that play FBS football.

3. Add 1 -2 full (non-football) members 1 to 3 full members and a 1 -2 football only schools to maximize both basketball and football. (As an FBS conference you need 8 full members who sponsor football so they have to add at least one full member)

Both Option 1 and 2 are being discussed ad nauseam but Option 3 is the most complex and interesting...for example if they added UAB as a full member that gets them to 8 full football members. Then they could add a top basketball school like VCU plus Air Force (football only) that would be the best of both worlds for them. A decent full football playing member, a high quality basketball add and a solid football only to balance it out. Staying at 10 members also maximizes CFP distribution which is the Sun Belt model. If they could lure both Air Force and Army as Football only members they could then add another non-football basketball power as well to go to 12.
Before we get too deep into this, keep in mind the AAC has to find teams that can afford to make the move. Given every school in America played last year with few or no fans, and crowds and donations are down this year, there's going to be a lot of questions of who can actually afford the move

UAB can. ODU could, UNT probably could. I'm not sure where it goes from there.

ODU athletics are in financial dire straits and have been for several years...m

Not a bad choice actually. Comparable in size to us, good athletic facilities, 30 or so miles up the road from Ft. Worth. Football’s been decent the last few years, Basketball program’s also been pretty good. Could use a Baseball program IMO.
