After Oklahoma and Texas depart and the 4 new schools join the Big 12........ how would everyone rank the major basketball conferences?
If you consider the last four to leave the Big XII were TAMU, Missouri, and now OU and UT, what replaces them in basketball actually may even out or improve the conference, maybe? Should the conference house 14 at some point, that year or so before UT and OU leave, that conference is stacked.

Once OU and UT leave? I don’t know if the SEC becomes a world beater in hoops. Both are fine, but not great. I thought the SEC already got one of the Big XII’s better hoops program with Missouri, but, that hasn’t been a certainty. The conference still needs to do its best work outside of the conference schedule. Kentucky’s usually good for it. Alabama seems to enjoy going on non-conference death marches here and there. Others need to step up, but, really, I don’t think the conference leapfrogs anyone with these two grabs. I still think the Big XII will be better with its new crop in hoops than the SEC.

WCC takes a shot, though. Desperately needs SMC to be great yearly, or it becomes Gonzaga and friends again, a single-bid conference.
Major conferences
1. ACC (as much as it pains me to say this)
2. B1G
3. Big 12
4. SEC
5. Big East (only due to bad tournament showings-UConn should fix this)
6. Pac-12

Mid majors
7. A-10
8. AAC
9. MW
10. WCC
11. MVC
Power Conferences
1. ACC (most elite teams at the top)
2. Big Ten (most depth top to bottom)
3. Big 12
4. Big East
5. SEC
6. Pac-12

Major Conferences
7. A-10
8. MWC
9. AAC (as it stands now - depends on who they add)
10. WCC
11. MVC

WCC has a lot of bottom dwellers. Its Gonzaga, BYU (who's leaving), St. Mary's and that's about it. I would definitely put MVC above them. Think AAC is still above the A-10, but it depends on who they add. MWC is also above A-10.

The MVC is certainly deeper, but Gonzaga is just that far ahead of the rest that it elevates the whole league.

I think the additions of TX and OU slightly edge out the Big East for the SEC.

Well, I mean...yeah.

Losing BYU will hurt the WCC but it won't necessarily hurt Gonzaga. For example, St. Mary's going 1-1 against a 20-win BYU team has edged the Gaels into the tournament in previous years.

The A-10 is very good conference. I do not like its 14-school makeup and believe they can elevate if they could shed a couple schools that have been more-or-less deadweight over the last decade or two.

Over the past 10 years, Oklahoma is 91-89 and Texas is 86-93 in Big 12 conference games.

Oklahoma and Texas were average Big 12 basketball programs.

Everyone (including me) thinks Texas & Oklahoma are going to be near the top of the SEC. Somewhere between #2-#6

That tells you everything you need to know about the relative strength of SEC & Big 12 basketball.

How do you justify SEC #1 (other than homerism?)
Top tier (all very close together)
Big 12
Big 10
Big East
ACC (strongest at the top, but a lot of mediocrity at bottom)

Power Conferences
SEC
Pac-12

Guaranteed multibid conferences
Atlantic 10
Mountain West

Always a threat to be multibid conference
Missouri Valley
American Athletic
West Coast
Conference USA (depending on losses)

Ocassional bid thiefs
MAC (has tradition, but has taken a drastic step back in the last 10 years)
Big West
Colonial
Are we ranking brands overall or power rating for 21-22?

By Brands the ACC has it

1. Duke/UNC (take your pick who you think is #1)

3. Cuse/Louisville (take your pick who you think is #3)

5. Virginia

By Power...probably not the ACC this year

This is the right take. Gonzaga is just so strong that it totally compensates the fact that (post byu) 4-9 (usf is ok) would be absolute bottom feeders in the valley, meanwhile a mo state or siu would finish 3rd pretty consistently in the wcc. But loyola is so much worse than gonzaga and uni or whoever is second is about on par with smc
Tough pill to swallow reading this thread. Although, once the season kicks off and we're in the top 10 while curbstomping folks (especially the P5s and soon to be P5s on our schedule), it'll take some of the sting off.

Memphis is a top 15-20 brand IMHO. If they continue to cleanup recruiting wise...I see them heading towards 10-15.
Are ranking programs based on how good their respective programs have been historically or are we just projecting forward?

If we're doing the former I think it goes:

1. ACC
2. Big 10
3. SEC
4. Big 12
5. BE
6. PAC 12
7. A10
8. AAC
9. MWC
10. MVC

If its projecting the strength of the conferences over say the next five years I think its:
1. Big 12
2. SEC
3. Big 10
4. Pac 12
5. ACC
6. BE
7. MWC
8. A10
9. AAC
10. MVC
