A Rover is interesting. Fits for Rayner. Dillion Thomas might be the perfect backup for that.

CJ Brown starting was expected.

Travis starting makes sense, he had a nice game.

Rayner is a player. Surprised at some of the #2s on Defense. The back up Lb from Barring is a Fr and I never heard of him and there is a backup at Safety , Jason Prophets....on Offense Hampton nis listed as back up at QB and CDrucker at TB. Missing Collins and Fletcher , they may have been passed as of now.

Bostad had a great game Saturday.

Coach Hammock said in his press conference (paraphrasing): "if a guy is not giving it all in practice it will be the next guy up....we have that kinda depth"

It wasn't specific as to Collins or anyone else; it was more a general statement. If Collins is not giving it his all in practice with the stable of RBs we have then he's not very bright!

I don’t think so. It sounded very much like a general statement.

It’s directed at ALL players, and no single player in particular, I think.

Nah. Ratdog is #2. #3 drucker makes sense - he can do a lot out of the backfield. If Waylee went down I would expect drucker to carry the load. If ratdog got hurt I would expect Collins to fill in those carries.

Ethan Hampton is the back-up QB and no “or” for Dustin Fletcher (I’m sure he is less than happy being passed up by a true FR and will we see him in the transfer portal at the end of the season?) I guess Fletcher’s passing didn’t come around like hoped for (just my guess). Previously, I wanted Rocky to run more like off the zone read. Now, while I still like that to keep the D honest and guessing, we should limit it. I don’t want to see Rocky injured and we have to go to a true FR. While the coaches are certainly high on Ethan Hampton, I just don’t want a true FR at QB. While there are exceptions, a true FR at QB usually doesn’t work very well – the game at this level is just so much faster that HS. Also, how many times have we heard about a superstar true FR QB that starts and it is a disaster? Rutgers about 4 or 5 years ago had a QB (whose named escapes me) that had offers from more big-time programs than you could count. He started and by the end of his true FR year he had the worst QB rating in FBS and I heard his confidence was completely destroyed (BTW, I grew up about 15 minutes from so I have a casual interest in Rutgers, usually about how bad they are).

Justin Lynch is his first game as a true FR was 0 for 3 with one pick and a fumble on 6 carries caused by a hard hit (welcome to FBS football). Note to Hot Rod – don’t screw up Justin Lynch!

We realize Fletcher is also a true freshman right?

Hampton is class of 2021. Fletcher is class of 2020 and played in a few games last year. Fletcher is what I think they are calling a FR covid (since last year didn't count against eligibility).

Fletcher’s not getting on the field until 2023 unless there’s an injury. Hammock loves Lombardi and he’s got next year too I believe. At that point Fletcher will be going into his 4th year at NIU. Eligibility aside, not everyone wants to be in college 5 years.

On that note; a few players are listed as alumni. Tucker, Devaux and a couple more. Does that mean they’re in grad school? Can you play football and not be enrolled in classes? Never thought about it before.
