You guys definitely made that homerun hire that all G5 programs are looking for when looking for their new coach. I still think he’s the “coach in waiting” at Alabama, problem is Saban could go another 5 years pretty easy. If he stay at Louisiana that long, you guys will be the Boise of 10 years ago.
Bama direct? That would be surprising.

What’s the best program to hire directly from the SBC/CUSA/MAC?

Auburn right? But Gus was the OC there the year before.

You guys had Drink go straight to the SEC in Mizzou. Troy had Brown go straight to WVU. As our conference has proven to be a comoetetive conference more coaches will go straight from our field to the biggest of stages.

And we had coaches go to Ole Miss, Auburn, and Boise. Heck, even the coach we wanted gone, got to go to Utah St for a slight raise.

Ding ding ding!!! Winner winner, chicken dinner. Seriously I think to that is his plan.

And now that his salary and his staff’s salary have all doubled and are now some the best in the g5 he has everything he needs and wants while he waits for his next move.

A couple of things though: this of course assumes he continues his current winning ways, or, if he does what might happen if the lsu job opens up first. We try not to think about the either of those 2 things.

Also of course some other job could come free before either of those 2 but it is pretty obvious that in his mind there are very few schools that might meet his needs.
I wouldn’t say any SBC went directly to a blue blood program yet.

Very well written article, that touches on a lot of different background information. Cajun fans got a lot of grief from some other fans when we said, we know Napier will leave one day, but he was never going to leave just because a P5 offered three times his salary or much more at the time.

The one hidden gem in all this, is Napier has shown every young hot shot coach that Louisiana is a great place for their own career when that time comes.

That was such a pleasant read. I was afraid it was just going to be about what he could be doing at some Power Conference school instead of what he is doing and will be doing at a less privileged school without automatic qualifying status. I've been to a football game in Lafayette one time, and it was such a neat experience then. It must be something else with the Cajuns producing a very successful product. My wife unearthed a box of old clothes recently including a T-shirt from Prejean's that I only wore once previously--during that one trip to Lafayette.
I have nothing but respect for Napier and his program at UL. A couple of years ago, I happened to be staying at the same hotel in Savanna as the team when they were playing at The Stink. Over the two days, I ran into lots of their players and coaches and was impressed with all of them. Since I’m always dressed in some App State attire or another, there was a lot of good natured ribbing back and forth, but their player’s reminded me a lot of ours. Well mannered, respectful and great ambassadors of their university. I wish them the best of luck this year except of course for that one or two times they play us!

That’s great to hear. Thanks for sharing.
