I think we should be 6. And yet… you have to prove it on the field ESPECIALLY if you have a C paw on your helmet.

Whatever we should be can be debated, but UC being in the preseason top ten is unprecedented. It's a huge deal to get this kind of respect.
Awesome news. It’s really impressive to see some the heavyweight names we’re rated above.
This is awesome! We should get more love from the AP Pollsters. Maybe #9 or #8 is my guess.

Quote:No. 10 Cincinnati (9-1)

Points: 979. Previous ranking: 8. Opens: Sept. 4 vs. Miami (Ohio).

Outlook: Matching last season’s perfect regular season and major bowl appearance will be a challenge for the Bearcats, who have a lot of returning talent but also some question marks. The headliner again will be dynamic QB Desmond Ridder, who’ll be rejoined by primary targets WR Michael Young and TE Josh Whyle. RB Gerrid Doaks is gone, so Jerome Ford will become the main ball carrier behind a line that must replace both starting tackles. The defensive backfield, featuring CBs Coby Bryant and Ahmad Gardner, will be solid. Road wins against Indiana and Notre Dame could put this team in the playoff picture come December.
A new high watermark!

More importantly, a chance to confirm or even improve upon it pre-conference @ IU and ND.

LOL, how about 5 votes for Houston? They've really not shown me much under their current staff. Let's hope UCF and SMU can rise from the ranks of "others" by the time we get into the American regular season. In that case, there will be at least an opportunity for a win over a ranked opponent at Nippert.
I am an absolute nonbeliever in North Carolina. Otherwise, seems fair.

Edit: and awesome!
lol. Some goober on the AAC board from Temple stated UC has a pow ceiling so won’t be attractive to the B12.

Lulz

BTW, really crazy seeing my alma mater and my backup adopted semi pro SEC team in the Too 10 together.
First preseason top 10 ever and only our second preseason top 25. CLF is God, or at least a minor deity. I shall build a church in His honor.

Luke is to the 2020's what Bob Huggins was to the 90's. He is the king of this town when it comes to sports.

I prefer to take a broader approach, but this is kind of interesting in light of some of the posts around here relishing the glory of potential annual games against the likes of Baylor, TTU, KSU, etc. Meanwhile, one of the AAC's biggest whipping posts, Tulsa, shows up without similar resources to the others mentioned.

Certainly any team can have success for short periods of time. Tulsa has had some decent teams at times but just don't compare to those other programs (even middling B12 teams) in terms of fan and institutional support. Even if they could beat them in a head to head matchup from time to time. Personally, I wouldn't be overly excited about playing a good chunk of the team in the B12. But they would be a step up from a number of teams in the current AAC.
We FINALLY have the advantage of a good starting spot. We don't have to try and get into the picture 10 weeks into the season after starting at the standard G5 flag bearer #17 starting position.

We can't blow this. We may never have this chance again.

If we don't blow it, we'll have more chances.

That cuts both ways and kind of makes my point. We see what Baylor, TTU and KSU are doing even with a comparatively megabucks tv deal. (And I'm generously leaving Kansas out of this as nobody seems to be talking them up as a football opponent.) What happens when that gets chopped in half or worse and their visibility goes down? And what would happen to AAC whipping boys Tulsa/Tulane and their fan and institutional support if they saw a significant $/profile increase and were on the same playing field as the above?

My hypothesis is they would all end up pretty similar going forward pending coaching hires and retention. (If anything I kind of like Tulane over any of them based upon their recruiting territory relative to competition for recruits but that's just my impression.)

FWIW, here's last year's Sagarins:
40 Tulsa
62 Baylor
68 K. State
73 Tulane
80 Texas Tech

PS: I don't want to take this thread further OT. So I'll copy this post and put it in the realignment 2.0 thread in case anyone is interested, they can post there.

Iowa State seems completely overrated to me. I really hope we get our shot at them at some point (not this year because that would mean we are not in the playoff). Just tired of seeing them ahead of the Cats in the polls. Completely unjustified in my opinion!
It should be a great season!
