I invite BYU as soon as possible.
BYU hopefully beats Texas a few times before they leave.
Then I target three candidates for twelve.
A P5 conference cannot dip too low academically no regional .No one ranked below a the lowest P5 member.
Former P5 staus is a plus like a Cincinnati for example.
My preference one MW and either U Conn all sports or two AAC.

BYU

Later Colorado st , Cincy and UCF all with a Nebraska type deal.

Without OU and Texas the Big XII isn’t a power conference. BYU left the MWC and went Indy in part because they couldn’t stomach Utah being in a power league when they weren’t. Don’t see how this would benefit BYU: they’d likely get a bid to the 12 team CFB as an unbeaten Indy, and they’d have to tear up their unique deal with ESPN/BYU TV because of the Fox interest in the Big XII rights, all to join a league that is objectively worse than the one the Utes call home. UConn isn’t leaving the Big East for this motley crew of leftovers either.

All of this, Carl

Plus, what in the world is "a Nebraska type deal"?
Big 12 cannot offer a B1G money, so the remaining 8's offer is just trying to stay above The American.

I thought NU only got a half-share of B1G distributions (for X? years)? And paid a negotiated exit fee?
I believe I read somewhere that as long as one current B12 member remains the conference will remain part of the Autonomy 5, which makes it much more likely they poach from the AAC and MWC than the other way around.

While there are no great programs left after OU and Texas leave their aren't any bad ones either, except for Kansas for whom the basketball more than makes up more it. The B12 is not going to make nearly as much money as they did, but they will still be the 5th best conference and if the playoffs still go to 12 teams their champ will be in every year.

This is extremely debatable, as the AAC champ has been ranked higher than the L8 previously.

Yes where Rutgers and Maryland got better deals .
BYU has a P5 size fan base facilities and a national title.
Add them you have a 9 team conference for 8 home games and add interest.
The other three adds would start at a disadvantage and build up.
If no other Big 12 team leaves they could end up with a solid 4th or 5th best conference.
A couple Big 12 teams will elevate someone has to win it.
Texas and Oklahoma if they drop off could become less relevant like Nebraska and Arkansas have .Miami and FSU even slipped after joining the ACC.
BYU probably needs 2 years to unwind their schedule before joining. By then Texas is gone.

Miami did fall off after joining the ACC. FSU dominated the ACC and won two national titles the first 10 years it was in the league.

IMO Texas and Oklahoma will never be anything but blue-blood blue-chip programs. Texas has one won national title in the last 50 years, but has been a blue-chip school the whole time. Oklahoma has won one national title the last 35 years and they have been as well.

They did. Maryland ended up getting in without the concessions, and I believe the B1G even helped with their exit fees from the AAC. Its been a sore spot in the past for Nebraska.
The Little 8 need to add two teams.

1) They lose the $$$ from conf champ game.

2) If KS, OSU and ISU and Texas Tech fly this chicken coop, they need at least 6 to build from.

3) For at least two years, a 10-team conf w Cinci and Houston fielding 5 Top 25 football teams a year probably does as well as the ACC and Pac many years and certainly places someone in an expanded playoff.

4) Someone is going to elevate in this format. Iowa State? Houston? TCU? Kansas State? Someone is gonna, without OU on its schedule, run the table and be a national story/playoff contender. ONE final four with a new B12 school involved ends the controversy. If that can happen, it MAY even convince KU, ISU and TTCH they are better off staying put.

Rutgers got a TERRIBLE deal. We were obviously very fortunate to be invited but Rutgers was getting way below the rest of the league. The distribution started at $9M a season in 2013 and increment from there. Rutgers only received over $20M in this last few seasons. Because we borrowed against future earnings to close the gap Rutgers is still not getting a full share. Maryland got a much better deal from the Big Ten to get them to leave the ACC.

Any idea why? All the information I’ve heard over the past 8/9 years is that Maryland Athletics were in desperate shape and the B1G threw them a lifeline.
UConn is probably available if the Leftover 8 gets desperate.

That's show the AAC...03-lmfao

BYU is a proud business partner of ESPN, right?
ESPN has probably already advised BYU to steer clear as they torpedo the Leftover 8.

You right, they will still be the 5th best or some years better than the Pac12. By far greater in brand value than the current G5 conferences.

Add BYU and Boise and call it a day. The Big 12 will still be 4 or 5th best P5

Yep, good point. The Little 8 will be going to Fox or CBS for future contracts.
Gonzaga and BYU would be my invites.

Dayton or Cincinnati are possibles if Gonzaga declines for the 10th.

And I work with CBS and Fox for the next contract, and also other new media digital services like Netflix, Apple, Amazon to carry the digital content if not Fox or CBS.

My thinking is 8 just isn't enough. BYU as a 9th fixes football, but Basketball is more a need for the 10th, preferably a school that doesn't bring football with them, since it would split the pie more ways.

Nebraska got a terrible deal. They just now are getting a full share. They are tens of millions behind where they would have been if they simply stayed in the Big 12. Only Rutgers in realignment got a worse deal than Nebraska and Rutgers wasn't making much when they joined.

Same reason Colorado got a better deal than Utah.

I think that they wanted to get both the NJ/NYC market access with Rutgers AND the Maryland/DC access with Maryland, but Maryland had more leverage since they were already in the ACC. My understanding is that Maryland got some off that money as an advance against future earnings, but a Maryland fan could give a better answer to that. Between the low end money they were getting from the B1G and the money they owed to the Big East/AAC Rutgers was essential not getting anything for two or three years while the rest of the B1G was getting $40M+ a year plus.
