The Big 12 CANNOT be fixed by adding UC or UCF. It’s done. If it does add a few teams as a bandaid it will only buy a little time like the Big East and then die after a couple more teams are poached
(ie Kansas and OK State) . It will fold just like the Big East.
The Big 12 is done if the 2 biggies leave.

Nothing will change with the MAC's membership. Only scenario is if the Big XII tries to survive by adding a few AAC teams, and then they back-fill with a couple MAC teams.

I wouldn’t pick on Rutgers as being a dud in the Big 10. They were very competitive in basketball last season and they always have good baseball teams. After rehiring Greg Schiano last year, the football team really improved. I saw that they also signed several 4 star players for the class of 2022. As for their role in adding $$$$$ via the NY media…nobody outside of NJ really cares about Rutgers athletics. NY follows Syracuse football over Rutgers? When they play OSU or Michigan, they fill the stands with spectators that want to see the opposing schools. Buffalo, Colgate are also too far away from nyc to draw any attention. Rutgers does equate well with most of the Big 10 academically. Have a Law school and are linked to NJ College of Medicine and Dentistry.

US News & WR ranks Rutgers 63rd nationally and tied with Penn State in the Big Ten ahead of Minnesota,Indiana, MSU, Iowa and Nebraska. Plus, they had $750 million in research funding in 2019.

It's going to be interesting what the Big 12 does....their leadership has shown time and again to be incredibly inept, but I feel like they need to do something to secure their autonomy status instead of standing pat. Might be worth it to just go big and cripple the two conferences they would likely be competing with (MWC and AAC) in the future without OU and UT...maybe add Cincinnati, Houston, UCF, Memphis, Boise State, BYU, San Diego St., and Colorado State and create some pods (WVU, Cincinnati, Memphis, UCF)(TCU, Baylor, Texas Tech, Houston)(Oklahoma St, Kansas St, Kansas, Iowa St) (Colorado St., Boise St., BYU, San Diego St.). Would clearly be conference #5 in football, makes a ridiculously good basketball and baseball conference, and probably worth between ~$15M a year in media money with the markets, competition level, etc.
Having said all that...they'll probably squabble amongst themselves, feel they have an inflated value (Dennis Dodd has quoted anonymous media types stating the OU/UT are roughly 50%-75% of the Big 12's media value), and won't do a thing/will try to blow it up instead. It's going to be fun either way...love watching tagalong teams finally get thrown into the grinder.

For sure if they want to stay at 10, which would seem odd to me since it limits television inventory. In a vacuum those two are kind of perfect, but I doubt any of the Texas schools would want Houston in there muddying the recruiting waters even more in the Big 12.

Lived in Houston for a bit. Even the locals don't follow Houston sports much. More of a pro city. Kind of like Chicago where Northwestern struggles to get fans.
