Seamus wins his first ever PGA tour event in today's Barbersol Open near Louisville KY. Took him 6 sudden death play-off holes to put away JT Poston. Congrats Seamus!

Yeah, while the Bucketneers were doing their thing in Charleston (WV), not too far away in Nicholasville, KY, Seamus was doing his thing. While the field was obviously a bit thin, due to "The" Open going on across the pond, still.....a great win - and indeed, those playoff holes were pretty interesting. He wins $630K, but maybe as important, he now gets all kinds of exemptions, etc.

Seamus has noted that he loves what he's doing, and on the tour, he hangs out some with the other Irish guys, esp. McIlroy and Sean Lowry. They're all essentially the same age and they like each other's company.

On the other hand...........Rhys Enoch, the main (recent) subject of our ongoing golf thread, hasn't done well the last 2-3 years. He's still playing on the European and European satellite tours, but is now ranked only about 400-440 in the world.
While the field was indeed thin yesterday- this was no fluke. Seamus has made nine straight cuts and has been in the top 20 in the past 6 events including some with very deep fields such as the Rocket Mortgage. He is playing the best golf of his career and was one of the betting favorites to win this event. This win moves him up to 69th in PGA tour points.

Oh, I agree. One could see such a thing coming on. No giant shock - but one must still be aware it was against a diminished field - and I don't think it's wrong to note that. And the rankings will take that into account (I think). But it opens up a whole new world of opportunity, and we'll see what he can do with it.

Thanks for the link
Power and Enoch both made the cuts this weekend, but have faded today (meaning Saturday, for me)..........

[Edit post-tourneys: Power didn't do so well after making the cut: tied for 60th at the Wyndham (-3). Enoch did better. Tied for 13th at the English Open at 10 under.]
Very nice update on Seamus:

big step forward for Power

Very nice for Seamus! He's making noise at almost all the events he enters now. Top 50 in World is a huge milestone and gets him into The Masters. Congrats to him and his hard work.
One thing that Seamus has been doing is playing in almost all of the events. He is playing again this week (and PGATour.com has him as the 6th favorite) and is scheduled to play 7 of the next 9 events leading into the Master's. That schedule should ensure that he stays well in the top 50.

I *think* he's been playing in almost all of them he qualified for, or was invited to. But don't quote me on that. He skipped the tournament after the Barbasol when he won, but beyond that, he's only been following through on the opportunity he made for himself, as he can.
Seamus on top of leaderboard halfway through round 2 at Pebble Beach. Good luck to him and hope he finishes strong.
He's not only atop the leaderboard..........he's freaking -16 after 2 rounds and leads the field by 5 after 2 straight 64s. On one stretch, he carded 8 birdies in 11 holes.

Keep it up Seamus!!
Rough day yesterday for Seamus. Just seemed a bit off all day especially his putter and his approach shots which consistently flew by the stick coming down the stretch. Still only 2 shots off the lead in 7th place by himself. Tees off at 12:22 and heres hoping he can regain his day 1 & 2 magic. Good luck Seamus!
Well, you and I together sure put a nice jinx on him. Ended up tied for 9th, I believe.
He put together 4 steady, but unspectacular rounds to finish tied for 33rd at the TPC - the first cut he's made since Pebble Beach. 21st in the FedEx Cup standings.

The other big question is, will it be enough to get him in the Masters next month. I know he has to have a top 50 world ranking, and he was at 49 or 50 when I looked a couple of weeks ago.
Whether Seamus plays the Masters will come down to next week's tournament. He currently sits at 48th in the world, and he is sitting out this week so he might fall to 49th or 50th.

The top 50 players after next week will qualify for the Masters, and next week is the Dell Technologies Match Play Tournament. My understanding is that this event awards points to everyone, but it also includes the top 64 players in the world. I don't completely understand the Match Play Tournament format, but it seems that Seamus will need to perform well in comparison to the other golfers that are around that 50th ranking.
Update on Seamus- he lost in the quarterfinals of the match play tournament to finish tied for 8th among the worlds top 64 players. With that finish he is projected to move up to 43rd in the world rankings and qualify for the Masters.
