The SWC if North Texas had been invited. (I believe this should've happened.) It may or may not have survived the Big XII merger, but it would've been interesting to see.

I'd go with that, but I might take UTSA instead of North Texas.

Fair enough.

I like this grouping.

I would keep North Texas though.

Would be willing to trade Arkansas for any one of: Oklahoma, Oklahoma State, UTEP, or Tulane.

With BC and ND being FBS Independenys and having a football scheduling/bowl agreement with the Big Ten. Actually would love to add a few more schools, but the OP specified 10.

According to the Wikipedia machine, BC, Marquette and Xavier are. Notre Dame was founded by the Congregation of the Holy Cross, Providence College was founded by the Dominicans, Seton Hall was founded by the Diocese of Newark, St. John's by the Vincentian Fathers, and Villanova by the order of St. Augustine.

Though the google suggests that the reach of Jesuit education extends beyond institutions founded by the Jesuits ... for instance, I have seen a claim that the first curriculum of Notre Dame followed the Jesuit approach.

I like this Big East better than the current Big East although certainly I would want UConn in it.

Add Illinois to this conference and it would be my favorite:) Hey, Illinois touches Lake Michigan! If I had to take anyone out, no offense but Cincinnati. But I would do a conference of 11. Actually for men's basketball I'd want Villanova in as well.

Replace Temple with a school actually on a Great Lake (Toledo or Buffalo)

The above is correct. If we wanted a similar footprint all Jesuit Conference

Boston College
Fordham (replaces St. John’s)
Georgetown
Holy Cross (replaces Providence)
Loyola Chicago (replaces DePaul)
Loyola Maryland (replaces Seton Hall)
Marquette
Saint Joseph’s (replaces Villanova)
Saint Louis (replaces ND) *
Xavier

* Detroit / Saint Peter’swould have been a better geographic matches for ND and Seton Hall. However I prefer St. Louis / Loyola MD location and academics.

When responding the first time I wanted to have Loyola Chicago over DePaul but went with DePaul since they are already in the Big East. If the original poster allowed more than 10 teams this would be my ideal Big East

Boston College
DePaul
Fordham (Primarily for Academics)
Georgetown
Holy Cross
Loyola Chicago
Marquette
Providence
Saint Louis
Seton Hall
St. John’s
Syracuse (Sure they’re not Catholic but who doesn’t want to see them play Georgetown and St. john’s)
Villanova
Xavier

14 team conference with 9 Eastern Teams and 5 Midwest
MAGNOLIA CONFERENCE
Boston College
Syracuse
Army
Navy
Northwestern
Notre Dame
Vanderbilt
Wake Forest
Duke
Miami

SUNFLOWER CONFERENCE
USC
Stanford
BYU

Baylor
TCU
SMU

If you are going to go away from all Catholic and include Syracuse, how can you have a Big East without UConn?

If you're going best-of-the-rest route, I would suggest two 10-team conferences...the AMERICAN and the NATIONAL conferences. The easy move would be to rename the AAC as the NATIONAL; shift SMU, Houston, and Tulsa west to the AMERICAN with the best of the MWC + BYU and add Army and UConn to the NATION/AAC.

AMERICAN Pacific
Hawaii
SDSU
UNLV
BYU
Boise State

AMERICAN Southwest
Colorado State
Air Force
Tulsa
SMU
Houston

NATIONAL North
UConn
Army
Temple
Navy
Cincinnati

NATIONAL South
UCF
USF
ECU
Memphis
Tulane

Hold the AMERICAN CCG in Las Vegas and the NATAIONAL CCG in Landover, MD or Philadelphia.

The AMERICAN and NATIONAL champions meet in the Liberty Bowl in Memphis, which is played on or near New Year's.
