If you can't get your way, take your ball and go home. Hopefully they won't come back. "Elections have consequences".
Screw em. Pass it and let the Texas courts address their malfeasance in office.

And way to go on worrying about climate change by using private jets to flee the state.

ALL-POINTS BULLETIN
Hmmm... fugitives, huh?

Airlines have to file flight plans. Those plans include a destination.

I think I'd go ahead and try to track them down.

I guess the only way to force them to attend is to take them into custody.

I'd pay to watch that.
Don't mess with Texas
Texas Democrats Decide to Play a Ridiculous Game of Chicken They Can't Win

Quote:I have good news: Minority rights in a legislative body are good again.

After months of Democrats from across the country insisting that pure majoritarian rule is the only way to preserve “democracy,” they’ve suddenly decided cheap games to obstruct the passage of various bills are totally acceptable. Unlike the legitimate tool that is the filibuster in the Senate, though, Texas Democrats are literally getting on a plane and leaving the state, presumably forever if their gambit is to work.

Imagine having to share a plane with these insufferable people. It makes my head hurt just thinking about it.

These are people ostensibly paid to govern. Instead, they are going to Washington D.C. to hide out in order to prevent Gov. Greg Abbott from calling the legislature into session to pass the various bills proposed. I can’t imagine this is going to go over well with many Texans.

As to why they are doing this, it’s largely being blamed on Texas’ voter security bill, which is just a run-of-the-mill list of general reforms setting standards for the voting system, many of which were blown up for the “emergency” of 2020. It’s not Jim Crow and it’s certainly not worth these people abandoning their constituents over. Yet, here we are, and notice none of them are wearing masks. Weird, right?

Abbott has already cut the pay of these do-nothings. Things get more complicated in September, though, when the pay of their staffers is also cut.

This is a game of chicken that these Texas Democrats can’t win. They’ve dug the hole so deep with their rhetoric and promises, drinking so much of the Kool-Aid that is national press adoration, that they’ve boxed themselves into a corner. That’s how you end up on a flight with no return date to Washington D.C. while your staffers stare at the unemployment line in two months. These elected officials and their subordinates presumably have families and children to see and provide for.

What that means is that eventually, these clowns will have to return home, and it’ll likely be a lot sooner than most think. When they do, these various bills will pass because Republicans have the majority to pass them under the rules as they exist. They can not just abandon their families forever. They can’t just forgo campaigning for their next elections. Their staffers can’t subsist without a paycheck.

In short, this is a sad, pathetic attempt to subvert the electoral system of representation in Texas. Not only will it not succeed, but this is also going to hurt Democrats in the long run in the Lone Star State. Whatever D.C. consultant told them this was a good idea is an idiot.
I thought it was Federal Law to wear a mask on a plane.
Are there no democrat men in the Texas legislature?
"democrat men" is an oxymoron

Some used to be men or think they are now.
Maybe the plane will crash.
LOL, this absolutely great!

The Republicans can go half days Mon-Thur polishing their agenda and take off each Friday while the Democrats waste time and simply frustrate their staff members who see a pay cut coming.

Once the Democrats finish their vacation in Wash DC and return to Texas, have them immediately apprehended at the airport by Texas police and brought to the Austin Statehouse for resumption of business....even at 200am.

For those wondering how the Texas police will KNOW when the dems are returning....a few of those staff members will quietly tell who is coming home on what flight. Messing with your staffs' careers and pay can do strange things to them.....especially when you pack up and go enjoy a vacation out of state.

So proud and giddy to be in dereliction of duty. Surprised they didn't wear matching outfits...

I like the look on the nerdy guy next to the Asian guy's face. It looks like, "What have I done?"

No men are Democrats.
My guess is if state officials look hard enough, they can find a "job abandonment" or "failure to perform" state law that would allow for their replacement. Once these legislators see they might very well lose their elected offices---they'll hitch a ride on the back of tomato truck if thats what it takes to keep their power. After all---the only thing a Democrat really cares about is having power over "the little people". I'd look closely at the emergency powers granted to a governor. They tend to be quit broad. Given the state of the border----I think you could make a case that there is a border emergency that needs to be addressed and that is part of the Special Session.

I would expect this to happen.
I wouldn’t be surprised to see something in the Texas Courts to compel these “ladies” to return to Austin and do their jobs.

The whole thing is ridiculous. The law requires a picture ID to vote, requires a person to have a reason to ask for an absentee ballot, and INCREASES the number of hours polls will be open for early voting. It also ends drive through voting (mainly because having multiple people in a car voting destroys the privacy of a secret ballot--subjecting voters to peer pressure). The idea this is racist or is some sort of "voter suppression" is little more than completely unsubstantiated propaganda narrative that literally falls apart once anyone reads the law.
