What are our expectations for the Huskies this year?

Thomas Hammock has started his head coaching career with an embarrassing 5-13 record. He can recruit players who certainly look the part, but can they get the job done? Can Hammock and his staff coach these guys up not only to be winners, but champions? After going winless last season I don't think it is reasonable to expect this year's Huskies squad to win the MACC. For me, I think 6 wins is where I set the bar for a successful season. I wish I could say that the Huskies will at least be competing for the MAC West come November, but my confidence in this team just isn't there yet.

Out of conference I am predicting the Huskies to go 2-2 with a wins against Wyoming and Maine. The Wyoming game can go either way, though. Georgia Tech and Michigan are both heavy favorites, so I guess I'm hoping for close games and no injuries. If the Huskies can start the season 2-2 that will already be Hammock's best start to a season, and I will have a little more optimism about the season.

In MAC play, I don't know what to expect. At first glance I see EMU and BGSU as easy wins, but the Eagles have had the Huskies' number as of late. Toledo, CMU, KSU, and UB all on the road will be tough. Buffalo might fall off after a coaching change and a handful of players jumping ship. If Ball State is the real deal, then that game could get ugly. WMU is a winnable game, especially since Huskie Stadium will be frozen hell come late November. Let's say the Huskies go 4-4 with wins against EMU, BGSU, UB, and WMU.

So what are my expectations for the Huskies this year? First things first, I expect them to win some games. Even if this season is a disaster, the Huskies should win at least two games. I also expect the Huskies to find their identity. The past two seasons they haven't been good at really anything. If the Huskies are going to win games and compete in the MAC they need to have something they can rely on, be it the run game, passing attack, or a stout defense. Even if they can rush on average for 150 yards per game that would be an improvement. My final expectation is that they give up fewer points. Last season the Huskies gave up at least 40 points in four of their six games, and never held an opponent under 30. In conference play, I think the Huskies can hold everyone but Kent State and Ball State under 40. The key will be keeping teams under 30 points.

My way too early prediction: 6-6, wins against Wyoming, Maine, EMU, BGSU, UB, and WMU

Not a math major, huh? COGS
I think they will be the hungriest team in the MAC this year which will get them 7 wins with the youth. Better days are ahead!

6-6, with 2022 pre-season press predictions being much sunnier.

I agree the goal should be to get into a Bowl, win it and grab momentum going into 2022.

At the very least, to smoke one. QB coach, Jeff "Bud" Smoker.

In that case I predict 0-12, or 12-0, or somewhere in between.
4-8. The arrow is pointing up and I’m excited about the direction the program is headed. Just not quite there yet.
I am really high on this season - mostly because I believe the difference between "good" teams in the MAC and just other teams in the MAC is defense.

Looking over this defense it just works for me on paper. Size, Speed, Leadership in the middle, it almost checks every box.

Weak corners and poor game plans make it hard to say they check every box.

The media world loves Gandy, he racked up a ton of tackles last season, because he played 8-10 yards off. If a team was dumb enough to run a 10 yard out or slant at him he made a play on the ball. It took really dumb game planning on the other side to not do well against our corners...but some how, some way, it happened at least a few times this season. I don't think I can trust any corner. Praying for a Freshman to step in and make things better is never a safe bet. Of course corner is one of the easier spots for True Freshman/Covid Freshman/Redshirt Freshman to adjust to, but still I don't know what to say. Rodgers/McGarrell...save us?

I love the offense - I think coach Eidsness finally has all of the parts to run the offense like he wants to. It will be in the style of South Dakota when he was there and the SF 49ers. It's going to be quite the show if the ball gets where it has to go. Literally no worries there. Speed, depth, size eveywhere except QB.

So, what happens this season? I think we can win 8, if we don't I'll personally be disappointed, but a Bowl game is what this team needs.

Tl;DR

I predict 8 wins. Anything less than a bowl is unacceptable.
16.5 point dogs at Georgia Tech.
Optimistic for a 5-7 season.
