Great hire!!! I’d heard he’d been offered, but I didn’t expect him to leave Samford. Now we REALLY need to get the clubhouse and Young Memorial Field renovations done.
I suspect there are infrastructure commitments that have been made to pull this off.
Wow this is big news for the baseball program. He’s probably the best coach in the state.
As much as I liked the Shoop hire, I think this is even bigger. I believe Shoop would have remained at Birmingham Southern had they not gone D3. Other than occasionally getting to use Regions Field, we never made any facility improvements for baseball during his long tenure. With Dunn taking the job, I believe those upgrades will happen sooner rather than later. We need that happen so that Dunn isn’t competing with one arm tied behind his back. I believe this is another step needed to eventually land in the AAC.
Excellent hire. Hopefully this is also a sign that we're committed to making facility upgrades - I doubt he agrees to come otherwise.

Perhaps we also said a conference upgrade would be involved 05-stirthepot

I think UAB's head coaches in FB, MBB and BB stack up with any in G5.
I would also add that Randy Norton is solid for WBB and Joe Guthrie had a good first year with softball.

Agreed. I like all our coaches in our top 5 sports. We’re set up for long-term success.
As a former baseball Blazer, I couldn't be happier. Casey will do a great job.

Ingram hit (another) home run with this hire.
Wow! I never expected this.

Agree
As y’all have said, let’s get him and the ball team decent every day facilities and a larger stadium we’ll no longer try to avoid playing in.
Casey Dunn learned a lot from a master baseball coach -- his father -- who was an outstanding championship baseball coach at the high school level. One of his best pupils was his son.

Only a matter of time bro. Just look at football and basketball. Dunn doesn’t come if he doesn’t see the re-commitment made by the university and fans to football and basketball.
It is really hard to understand why UAB hasn't been better in baseball. UAB has had many good coaches over the years, including some very good assistant coaches. Yeah, states like Alabama will always be a bit disadvantaged vs. surrounding states because of lottery money, but it's hard for me to understand why Samford, Jacksonvllle State, South Alabama, Troy and Alabama State can be consistently good and often better than UAB. Samford has just owned the Blazers of late, for example. I guess it has to be facilities.
