and if that is true then the ncaa needs to allow conferences of 12 or more to reorganize, even divide into 2 conferences since they got this large because the ncaa said they must in order to have a ccg. Allow each new league created due to this rule change to have auto bids.

True but it would be justified.
I thought they ruled on that a long time ago when the Big12 decided to stay at 10 teams.

They did, but what is being suggested is that a full round robin would no longer be required as would be impossible to do.

Then we should immediately have the top 9 teams play an 8 game round robin and the bottom 5 play each other twice as often as needed to make 8 games, with both having 4 OOC games. That way the computers keep the top teams at the top and if one breaks out they'll contend for the access. It can be determined on ranking after OOC games. Sagarin or whatever. Or previous season making that mean something.

Thats definitely thinking outside the box.

It would also be an opportunity to play every other team in the conference in 2 years instead of missing teams for 10 years as we do now.
That’s the ticket MUther

Would the pods be setup via rank/rpi before conference play begins?

That's one way to do it, or like I said end of season ranking from previous year so that regular seasons matter as well. And it wouldn't be fixed because a stronger team or two in the lower bracket are gonna win a lot of games and easily move up the following year, replacing any dead weight in the higher bracket that didn't live up to expectations. I don't really like this because you risk not having the best in the top 9. Lot of difference in teams year to year sometimes.

Selection and scheduling are probably the downfall of that idea. It takes a little more forethought to schedule a 100man football program and equipment than it does to do pods with basketball. Cool idea, but likely not practical. Especially sorting home games and away in a short amount of time. Might could be done if everyone had a bye week before conference play started. Just looking for an edge.
