Link: Catholic bishops advance plan to rebuke Biden over abortion

Quote:US Catholic bishops overwhelmingly approved the drafting of a “teaching document” that many of them hope will rebuke Catholic politicians, including President Biden, for receiving Communion despite their support for abortion rights.

The result of the vote — 168 in favor and 55 against — was announced Friday near the end of a three-day meeting of the US Conference of Catholic Bishops that was held virtually.

The bishops had cast their votes privately on Thursday after nearly three hours of impassioned debate.

Supporters of the measure said a strong rebuke of Biden was needed because of his recent actions protecting and expanding abortion access, while opponents warned that such action would portray the bishops as a partisan force during a time of bitter political divisions across the country.

As a result of the vote, the USCCB’s doctrine committee will draft a statement on the meaning of Communion in the life of the church that will be submitted for consideration at a future meeting, probably an in-person gathering in November.

One section of the document is intended to include a specific admonition to Catholic politicians and other public figures who disobey church teaching on abortion and other core doctrinal issues.

Bishop Donald Hying of Madison, Wisconsin, said during Thursday’s debate that he speaks with many people who are confused by a Catholic president who advances “the most radical pro-abortion agenda in history,” and action from the bishops’ conference is needed.

“They’re looking for direction,” Hying said.

Quote: Priest says ‘cowardice’ of bishops to blame for Biden’s embrace of abortion

An Arizona priest said the “bad catechesis and cowardice” of the bishops is to blame for a pro-abortion Catholic occupying the White House.

In a recent homily, Fr. William Kosco of Buckeye, Ariz., said President Joe Biden’s political views are “diametrically opposed to all of the basic moral principles that are proclaimed by the Roman Catholic Church.

Biden is the nation’s second Catholic president and frequently describes himself as a “devout Catholic.” The Catholic Church teaches that abortion is an “abominable crime” that is “gravely contrary to the moral law.”

“Since the first century the Church has affirmed the moral evil of every procured abortion. This teaching has not changed and remains unchangeable,” the Catechism of the Catholic Church states, noting that Catholics who procure abortions are automatically excommunicated.

“He’s the most powerful man in the world and he is absolutely opposed to the basic understanding that God is the author of life,” Kosco observed. “How in the world did this happen? You want an answer? I’ll tell you the answer: because our bishops have been silent for 60 years through bad catechesis and cowardice.”

President Biden is asked about the Catholic Bishops moving on a resolution to prevent him from receiving communion for his support of abortion.

reminds one of this stellar moment:

Man, he looks completely out of it there.
Oh nooooooo, if he can't take the Eucharist, he ain't going to heaven. Tsk tsk.

LOL, according to the church anyway. That's what kept the royalty in the olden times in line.
These bishops might have a moral leg to stand upon had they attacked the pedophiles within their own ranks with such zeal. This is a political move led by politically motivated bishops within the Church and its going to drive countless Catholics out of it. Are Catholics going to judge other Catholics by political party and cast judgement on who can receive communion?

No, that's the job of bishops and priests.
It’s about time….
How long has it taken Catholics to do this.
Why now?

Every Democrat President since Carter has supported and sanctioned the killing of our unborn yet the Vatican and American Bishops want to rebuke Biden? I realize Biden is probably (not sure) the only Catholic since Kennedy but this doesn’t pass the sniff test.

Something stinks with this

Biden is the first president that is Catholic since Kennedy. He has been very public about his abortion stance as has Pelosi, who is also Catholic. Pelosi even tried to claim that the Bible says abortion is ok.

The headline is sensationalized, but nothing new in today's media. Bottom line is that support for abortion is considered a mortal sin by the Church and you are not supposed to receive communion in a state of mortal sin.

Also, the younger clergy that are now becoming Bishops are more conservative. The prior group, many of those who also hid the child abuse scandal, were the ones to let this slide.

Thanks for the reply. Much appreciated

If it is politically motivated then they themselves are committing sin. That being said, as Christians they have every right to rebuke a brother who has fallen away and condoning sinful behavior. Galatians Chapter 6 says those who are in the spirit should restore a brother in gentleness.

If the transgressor in this case Biden who is causing division refuses to turn away from his sinful behavior after multiple warnings they should have nothing more to do with him. His sinful nature has made him self condemned. Titus Chapter 3.

The clergy are standing on solid biblical ground and have every right to admonish anyone that is involved in sinful behavior. They are not judging him they are judging SIN. Jesus said you will be known by the fruit you bare. You will not pick grapes from thorn bushes.
One last word for Mr Biden who for years stated publicly he was not in favor of abortion but caved to the lusts of the Left. For they loved the PRAISE OF MEN more than they loved the praise of God. John 12:43
Way to read the tea leaves there, Biden*.

Yesterday: Biden*-They aint gonna do that"

12 hours Later: They did that.

I wonder if the pedophie priests still get to take communion? I have zero issue with what they are doing to Biden, just maybe take care of your own house first.

In other words get the log out of your eye before you worry about the splinter in mine. Yes, this also is biblical.

Nonetheless, condemning LIVING IN SIN is backed up by scripture. Maybe the messenger is the problem.

Bidens* problem is that President Trump was more of a devout catholic than Biden* is.
Quote:If you didn’t think white boy summer was going to be lit, this story may change your mind.

Because we don’t have more important issues going on in the world like out of control inflation, a floundering economy, China rising, Joe Biden’s brain-melting, or a border crisis, Democrats have decided it’s time to go to war with the Catholic Church. Yes, 2021 just won’t stop.

(related Ted Cruz Nails It After Nancy Pelosi Goes Into the Fetal Position Over Abortion Question)

The background on this is that Catholic Bishops have been convening on the issue of denying communion to heretical Democrat politicians. That would include Joe Biden, who is rabidly pro-abortion.

That led to this silly consternation – and be sure to stick around because it gets worse.

Did you get all that? It is now “weaponization” for the Catholic Church to have beliefs and to hold its followers to those beliefs. Apparently, Democrats are under the impression that communion is just a free-for-all, whereby the church can have no standards whatsoever in administering it. Heck, you don’t even have to be Catholic to see how dumb this is. Protestants have different beliefs about communion, but they still follow the Biblical decree to examine one’s self and to make sure that one is worthy of taking it. Paul is pretty clear that if you aren’t, you are sinning against the Body of Christ.

In regards to the Catholic Church, their doctrine denotes that someone who supports abortion is disqualifying themselves from the Eucharist. Now, whether a person agrees with that or not is irrelevant. If someone doesn’t like how Catholics do things, they can go start their own religion, correct? Regardless, it’s absolutely asinine to ask a 2,000-year-old church to bend to the political wants of modern Democrats.

Of course, Rep. Ted Lieu is an asinine person so you get this.

If you had a Democrat literally threatening the Catholic Church for daring to have their own dogma on your 2021 bingo card, congrats.

Lieu is a lot of things, but Catholic is clearly not one of them. Christianity is not a buffet where you get to just pick and choose what parts you like while dismissing the rest. Lieu can support killing babies in the womb or he can be Catholic. He can’t do both, and that seems to be making him rather angry.

Meanwhile, here’s the craziest take on all this from a larger account.

Got that? If a church dares to not bless the heretical positions of a politician, then the government should retaliate and tax that church as punishment. Sounds legit, right? The tyranny just flows from these people like honey.

No one has a “sacramental right” to be offered communion by the Catholic Church. They also don’t have a right to demand a Protestant pastor marry a same-sex couple. Religious freedom exists in the United States, at least for a little while longer, and it goes both ways. Biden and other Democrats are free to take communion however they want. They can go buy some wine and bread and go nuts. But the Catholic Church is also free to not administer it to them under the guise of their religious authority.

Do Democrats really think going to war with the Catholic Church (and Christianity in general) is a smart play? Do they truly think an institution that has existed for thousands of years has to throw out all their beliefs in order to appease the sensibilities of modern liberals? Delusion is a strong drug so perhaps they do.

I'm kinda glad that they've gone to war among themselves. Two hypocrite organizations sparring is comical really. How, for instance, has the church swept under the rug all those priests who were abusing children of both sexes, (LOL, you thought I was gonna write "ALL" sexes). I was a catholic and I got tired of following a non-biblical organization.

I also studied their history and boy oh boy what a bunch of corrupt, immoral, heretical bunch they were/are.

So, in my eyes I have no pity for either party. Go get 'em, Popey.
29For he that eateth and drinketh unworthily, eateth and drinketh damnation to himself, not discerning the Lord's body.

I don’t think it gets any clearer than this. TBH, it’s really not a Catholic thing it’s a Christian thing.
