In the 10K earlier, Carrie Verdon stopped one lap too soon, so Grace finished in 30th overall.

1. Malone 59.62m (195' 7")
2. Winger 58.78m (192' 10")
3. Ince 57.52m (188' 8")
4. Allgood-Whetstone 55.48m (182' 0")
5. Carter 54.30m (178' 2")
6. Fiamoncini 53.14m (174' 4")

What’s the chances of Ari making the Olympic team? Top 3 go?

If she finishes in the top three here, she is basically assured of a Tokyo berth due to her place on the world rankings (https://www.worldathletics.org/stats-zon...d=10229533)

I already addressed this in Post #102.

Ahhh, but not with the value-added LINK! 02-13-banana

I prefer THIS LINK.

During the race, she moved up from 39th to finish at 31st. 41 runners started. BTW, Grace was the youngest in the field.

Here's a link to the 11:12-long free highlights video of the race: https://www.nbcolympics.com/videos/us-tr...-qualifies

(The full replay requires a cable subscription to the NBC Sports channel or such).

Grace is not mentioned, but her bright red hair is easily seen in some of the early parts of this video. She appeared to be 9th from the last when the two starting groups merged.

At 2:46, the video moves jumped forward to 3-1/2 laps to go, and concentrated on the leader, Emily Sisson. I didn't see Grace, even in the background.

Sisson "obliterated the field" with a 31:03.83 time that set a new U.S. Olympic Trials record.

In her post-game interview, Sisson said that she lives in Phoenix. Remembering her many training runs there in the heat, she said that she thought before the race, "I can do this."

Full results can be found here: https://results.usatf.org/2020Trials/

Grace's time was 33:28.98.

(An indication of how difficult today's conditions were for the runners: Grace's Rice-record time of 32:24.38 would have been 9th today.)
Women's Javelin about to begin.
First round - in 4th place with 55.04m (180' 7")
Trouble already - Ari takes a foul on a bad second throw, but the current third place thrower, Avione Allgood-Whetstone, has a lifetime best of 58.94m (193' 4"). Ari is going to need to step up her game.
Now Kylee Carter passes Ari with 55.28m (181' 4"), moving her down to 5th.
Uh oh - sector foul*. She remains in 5th going into final 3 throws.

* Sector Foul - a throw that lands outside of the landing zone.
Women's Pole Vault finals taking place.

I expect Sandi Morris and Katie Nageotte to make the team. Jenn Suhr has been an Olympian, but I am not sure of her current fitness.
Ari improves in the 4th round to 57.49m (188' 7") - currently in 4th.
She takes a foul in her 5th round. It's down to one throw.
No improvement in round 6. She will finish in the worst spot - 4th.
Unless Allgood-Whetstone can get an Olympic qualifying mark by Tuesday, then Ari may still get to Tokyo, based on her world ranking.
Women's Long Jump FINALS are tonight. Tara Davis of the University of Texas has been outstanding all year, but is she tired? Does Olympic Gold Medalist Brittney Reese have another great effort in her? And, there is veteran and also Olympic Gold Medalist Tianna Bartoletta. Shakeela Saunders will be in the mix, as well.
Men's 400 Meter Hurdles FINALS tonight - should be Rai Benjamin and Kenny Selmon for 1-2, with it wide open for that 3rd spot. Everyone in the field has an Olympic standard.
Women's 200 Meters FINALS tonight - based on the 1st two rounds, it looks like Gabby Thomas, Jenna Prandini and Allyson Felix for 1-2-3.
Men's 110 Meter Hurdles FINALS - Grant Holloway almost tied the world record in the semifinals, so he should be good, with Devon Allen in 2nd. It will be tight for 3rd.

Rai Benjamin 46.83 (just short of the world record) PB
Kenny Selmon 48.08 PB
David Kendziera 48.38 PB

Only 2 vaulters remain: Nageotte and Morgan Leleux. Both are trying at 4.80m (15' 9").

I do not know how the 3-way tie at 4.60m (15' 1") is broken, but I assume that 3rd goes to Sandi Morris, due to fewer misses.

Olympic team:

1. Negeotte
2. Leleux
3. Morris

EDIT: New Meet Record for Nageotte: 4.95m (16' 2 ¾")

How can that occur? Must she make the Olympic mark in an established competition? Or can she try at a private event that she (or someone else) sets up with only that result as the goal?
