MSSt returns the favor with 2 walls and a 3 run HR.

Following another walk, rain delay.

Following another walk, rain delay.

It was pouring before the 3-run bomb, with the wind blowing out at over 50 MPH. The umps should have delayed the game before that.

Umps doing UT a favor? I’m shocked, I tell you! Shocked!
How are NC State’s players not vaccinated? Aren’t most schools requiring students to be vaccinated?
I truly do not understand the reluctance to vaccinate, especially in a team situation. Unfortunately, much of the resistance seems to stem from political choices. I think it is criminal that health care was forced to descend into that arena.
Vandy advanced to CWS finals as NC State game today is declared a no-contest (forfeit).

Interesting article with lots of details that I haven't read elsewhere.

I think the Head Coach’s statement will give you a clue.

Quote: “My job is to teach them baseball, make sure they get an education and keep them on the right track forward,” Avent said. “But I don’t try to indoctrinate my kids with my values or my opinions. Obviously, we talk about a lot of things, but these are young men that can make their own decisions. And that’s what they did.”

Really tough break for the Wolfpack. We weren’t in the semifinals, but obviously our women suffered the same fate in volleyball.

There’s a lot of moving parts in hosting these tournaments, so I get that it isn’t simple to delay a number of games the required amount of time for people to get over the infection, but I wish they could.

BTW, in that same interview, the head coach refused to answer a question on whether he has been vaccinated, saying he's a baseball coach not a doctor, and that he's here to discuss baseball not politics. After seeing what happened to both VCU (MBB) and Rice (volleyball), both of which occurred relatively early in the vaccination rollout (when demand greatly outnumbered supply), there's no excuse why teams and staff entering this post-season tournament were not vaccinated. They knew the risk.

To me, it's a firing offense for both the head coach and Athletic Director. To paraphrase Rush (the band), by choosing not to make a decision on vaccination, they have made a decision.

The NCAA is run by idiots, but shutting down a semifinal game because vaccinated 20 year old kids who play their game outdoors at a distance
is unbelievably stupid (also the NC state players should’ve just been vaccinated to avoid the stupid testing rules). Can’t imagine what the people who write these rules would think if they walked into a bar/store/restaurant in the south somewhere.

Not any better at a national level though, our own government doesn’t accept the CDC vaccine card as sufficient to re-enter the US.

Precisely. And to those who argue that people should be allowed to live their lives and make their own decisions, then fine, those same people need to be willing to live with the consequences. They knew the risks, especially after what happened to VCU and Rice.

Is the NCAA rule out of line with any of the other major sports leagues regarding covid protocols? Chris Paul just had to sit out of the NBA playoffs.

I’ve tried to not second guess protocols like this because of how difficult the decision is for those running these events - lots of competing interests. I think there are two things that can be controlled: consistency of enforcement and team reaction.

To your point, NC State knew these rules and played with fire. And the NCAA stuck to their guns/protocols that were laid out ahead of time.

My guess is that the two non-vaxxed kids are actually sick, right?
Reading some of Walt’s tweets under the post by the NC State players tweet....

My goodness....I know you’re far left wing but wow....
NCAA punishing kids for choosing 1 of 2 very reasonable decisions (to vax or not to vax) when neither choice is actually dangerous to them at all. Choice not to vax may actually be more reasonable given age of these kids if we are being totally honest (WSJ just put out rly good article from UCLA Dr about risks outweighing virtually 0 benefit for people in this exact demographic). Its absurd when it happened to Rice and it’s absurd now for these kids at NC State who were 3 wins from an NCAA title.

If next year NCAA says “all athletes need to donate a lung to scientific studies to be eligible” some people on this board will say “well they knew the rules going in so have to live with consequences of not donating that lung”

Insert facepalm emoji
1. There is a rule
2. I choose NOT to do everything to prevent the rule from being implemented ("free-dumb")
3. My, my - if it isn't the consequences of my own actions (inactions)

x1000" Idiots is a KIND word. 4 VACCINATED players tested POSITIVE and were not allowed to play (so I guess vaxing didn't help them). In fact, all the players that were prevented from playing on Friday tested NEGATIVE prior and just before the game and still were not allowed to play. They got the honor of watching in their hotel rooms. If VACCINATED players can test positive same us unvaccinated then maybe the problem is the TESTING. So those that say, "should've been vaccinated to avoid this scenario" are ill informed since our testing is so accurate that a vaccinated person can test positive or negative depending on which way the wind is blowing that day!!!! Entire CWS is now tainted no matter who wins. Assign an ASTERISK to whoever wins. Thank you NCAA!!! Morons

Not sure where the “so I guess vaxing didn’t help them” comment comes from. Haven’t seen any indication about how sick or asymptomatic any of the players are. But I’d guess that the unvaxxed players were actually showing symptoms/sick whereas the vaccinated players weren’t (so likely that the vaccines helped reduce severity of infection).

I’m wondering what the testing protocol is for other major sport bodies (NBA, olympics, etc) and how NCAA compares.

Wasn’t trolling you, Walt. Don’t flatter yourself. Unfortunately your replies to that NC State player showed up on my Twitter feed. I don’t follow you on Twitter. Just struck me as incredibly heartless.

But you do you...
