Has anyone took a train down to New Orleans for a Tulane game in the past? Or just drove to New Orleans.

Just thinking about this upcoming season against them.
Your question reminds me of when some years ago I asked AMTRAK about going from B'ham to Memphis by train. I was told I could get to Memphis by train 3 ways. I could go to Washington, DC and on to Memphis, I could go to Chicago and then to Memphis, or I could go to New Orleans and then to Memphis. I just bought a plane ticket.
its been decades, but I have taken the train from Bham to NO and back...was an easy trip
I've only been to one football game at Tulane, and I drove for that one
I have rode the train to New Orleans a couple of times. I believe it leaves B’ham in the afternoon so you would have to go on a Friday. The return train starts in the morning which can be tough if you are hung over. The bright side is that the seats are roomy enough to sleep all the way back to B’ham. It is slower than driving and typically arrives late in my experience. However, it is a more relaxing way of travel to me than being cramped in a plane or stuck in a car as long as time constraints don’t come into play.
The morning departure is the only problem with getting home from what Ive seen on their schedule whenever I thought about trying it. Still havent given it a try.
You can go round trip for as little as $50 per person (plus tax) but you'd definitely need to leave on at least Friday (arriving at 9 pm Friday night) and return Sunday (departing at 9 am) to hit the game.

I've made this trip for Mardi Gras. It's fun, but definitely longer than a car ride and pretty exhausting TBH.
We did it with a big group when I was in school. Maybe 2002 or 2003. The novelty wears off somewhere around Laurel. It' something like 7 hours, because you make about 5 stops. The bar car ran out of booze. Left around lunch, arrive at a pretty good time. And it may leave out at 9:00 returning now, but back then it was at like 6:00 AM. On a Sunday morning, after spending the night in the Quarter. No bueano.
My wife’s family are from New Orleans. Several of them use the train to come here instead of driving
One problem with the Crescent is that it must move to a side track if CSX needs it.

Bates could elaborate because I think it happened to them several times on the way down on that particular trip. That had something to do with the club car running out of beverages. I've heard the story from some of the GreenHouse folks.

It might have something to do with the fact that the Green House folks drink like British soccer fans.

In 2006 British soccer fans drank a German town dry during the World Cup. They had to ship in beef from other parts of the country.
We brought our own liquor for the ride down and were already pretty lit by the time we walked from the dome to Bourbon Street. I'll say this about the train ride. If you want to party and don't mind the delays or cramped space, it's not a bad way to go.
I’ve taken Amtrak on this route several times & it’s great. Always beats driving. It’ll probably be our mode of transportation to the game.

I’ve lived back in Bham for the past 2 yrs, tho, and there’s no Amtrak service out of Mobile.

I do remember stopping at length a few times, especially when you start coming into NOLA. Plus that’s the end of the line, so they made some long turning route then backed into the station. It was an hour ride at least AFTER you cross Pontchartrain.

Wow!
Does anyone have a clue about game time for the Tulane game? I won't be riding the train, but would love to go to the game. I can't stay through Sunday, however, but could go down Friday and stay the night, and then come back after the game on Saturday night--but that all depends on whether it is a day game.
