Best player on the team (who sat second individually) placed under COVID protocols after his roommate, team’s No. 6 tested positive. With the emotions of what occurred and needing to move up the standings, team put forth one of the most clutch performances (across all sports) in school history holding off Auburn, Baylor and Notre Dame to qualify for NCAA nationals for the first time.

Here’s the story from the Golf Channel which was going on and on about this on social media most of the day

Pretty cool stuff. Congrats.
Hope the Bearkats get at least one of the two players back and no one else tests positive. Pull off a great National performance.
Could Sam get two national titles in the span of like one month? Great story and hoping for an even greater ending. Keep it going Kats!

What's strange is the player tested negative twice at the NCAA tournament site, so you would think he'd be released from COVID protocols?

On the flip side, student-athletes who have been inoculated should be exempt from the NCAA COVID protocols. Hate to say it, the institution should have strongly encouraged its student athletes to get COVID vaccine. It helps the athletic department and student-athletes navigate some of these COVID protocols set forth by the institution(s), conferences and/or NCAA if something like this happens.

Really cool story and good articles.
Sam made the cut to the top 15 at nationals. Nice story and nice run for the Kats!

Sweet!
For those who want to hear from the Bearkat coach about all the trials they went through to rank No. 16 in the country and now also finish 9th in the NCAAs - both high marks for the program.

More national coverage, attention heaped on SHSU men's golf program and its coach, Brandt K!

For people who don't follow college golf, all I can say is what the SAM golf team did is astonishing. Teams field five players and count their best four as stated. For Sam to have no chance of discarding their highest round yet still making the next round of the NCAAs like they did is absolutely amazing. Well done Kats, I think this was harder than beating SDSU in football. We Cats root for our old friends who are also Kats.
More good news; trio of Kats including Holcomb in US Amateur

—-
Three Bearkats will begin play on Monday in the US Amateur at Oakmont Country Club, Oakmont, Pa. Recent grad William Holcomb received an exemption into the field, while returner Grayson Blunt and newcomer Chad Sewell both won their qualifying events.

There were three Bearkats in the field of which two made it from stroke play to bracket play.

Blunt won his match 8 up. That's pretty dominant. Holcomb won 6 up. Both those matches were Round of 64.

Blunt takes on 12 Joe Highsmith at 2:25 CT while Holcomb takes on 27 Devon Bling at 2:15 CT

What is SFA's home course? As an old golfer who has played a lot of tracks, I wonder what couse could polish their team.
