Just beat North Texas 2-1 to advance to tomorrow’s championship game! Go blazers!
Will play WKU at 12 today on CBS Sports Network
WKU advanced out of the losers bracket...but if I read the bracket correctly, it isn’t a true double elimination tournament?
Despite the fact that WKU has a loss and UAB doesn’t, it’s still just one game to decide the winner?

Is that correct?

Correct. It’ll just be one game to decide the championship today.

That sorta sucks
For those who have DIRECTV, it is on CH 221 at noon, and UAB is the "Home" team.
9-2 WKU, bottom of the 4th.
4-13 final

It really bothers me that the announcers multiple times referred to this as a double elimination tournament

The Blazer's bottom of the 3rd and WKU's top of the 4th pretty well established how the game would turn out. Both teams started their half inning with two runners in scoring position and no one out. The Blazers failed to score leaving the same two on base. The Hilltoppers batted around increasing their lead to seven runs while UAB used three pitchers trying to stop WKU scoring. In short, they scored runs and we didn't.

It doesn’t make sense that it is anything less. Why does WKU get to lose a game early and continue playing? A partial double elimination tournament is extremely bizarre and unfair.

Exactly.
I’m fine with single elimination or double elimination...but double for every team except one
We could have simply won.

Our baseball team has benefitted from this rule. While I agree, make it double elimination or single, but we all played under the same rules. We were not screwed as others have cried on social media. We had our ass whipped.
I agree we weren’t screwed. Every player and coach on the team knew the rules going in. It’s just silly to play out double elimination on the brackets and not allow a three game championship.

Agree. Would be nice to have a true double elimination but the rules were obvious - and voted on - going into the tournament. Overall, Western Kentucky softball was 4-0 against the Blazers this season. It's was a good tournament for UAB, unfortunately they fell short. Let's just hope they get an NCAA Regional bid.

yes, we could've won...we didn't. and the way the game went yesterday, I have a hard time seeing us winning the 2nd game of a double header (had there been one)

has our baseball team benefitted from this rule? the only team that benefits is the tournament winner, if they came through the losers bracket. When did our baseball team do that?

I haven't seen anybody here argue that we were screwed...just that its a stupid format (which you agree with). But yes, all the teams knew the rules and I'm guessing voted for them. If you're going to argue against what people say on social media...perhaps you should actually do it ON social media
The year we won the tournament in baseball(feels like 5 years or so ago, so it was probably like 2005) we played a meaningless third game in the pod. We beat the other two teams that could have caught our two wins. I forgot the format was two groups:

1458
2367

And the winner of each played. It’s weird to me.
Sone were whining on social media. I agree it’s dumb.
I agree it’s weird, but those were the rules set forth before the season & have been the same rules that have been in place for several years. I also get why they do it: TV. All games were on ESPN+ except the championship game, which was on CBS college sports.

Also, WKU beat us all 3 times during the regular season, & only one of those games was close. WKU proved to be the better team. Not a bad season for our first year coach. This was the best team we’ve had since Marla was taking us to the NCAA tournament. I look forward to seeing us build off this year.
