I'd like to see them turn that memorial at the SE corner of U-Hall so it actually faces the Mall. I can't see the thinking that faced it the direction they did. It's a nice space. Just seems focused in the wrong direction, towards a building instead of the greenspace of the Mall.
The only pavement change I see is the short stretch from Fieldhouse to Union Annex and that's there because students had worn a footpath there anyhow. So why get rid of it just for them to turn it into mud?
Isn't it about time for the every five year remodel of Snyder?

Their new construction seems to have gone towards things with economic and academic return. They also built from what I can see, two completely new campuses. Purdue does have the advantage of connected space to grow. With one exception. They lost out on being an Elon Musk space site because of one low railroad bridge. Ohio St is knocking down buildings, left and right. Michigan looks like a Chinese expansion city with the cranes towering over that campus. As you say, $$$$.
For Toledo? They should be under more of a microscope. It's already a beautiful campus. Unless privately or externally funded, landscaping and one-less concrete path (one more mud path created by students taking the sensible route) is below new toilets on the list of infrastructure needs. And if externally funded by government money, my opinion would still stand: this is not priority. It's pork.

Since I work at UT and served on the committee that oversees construction projects on main campus, guessing I know a lot more than you about SM renovations-where do you work again? what is your connection to UT besides following Athletics and reading stories in the Blade? You know nothing about how UT operates, planning, construction, budgets etc..

When was the last time you walked the sidewalks in the Mall? When was the last time you walked along the roadway between Mall and U Hall? If you had you would at least be aware of and informed about the poor condition of many of those sections which have not been replaced in 20+ years, plenty of ADA issues and safety concerns (potholes, uneven sections, trip risks). There was a detailed inventory of this area and risks to people using them, landscaping is also possible since entire area will be excavated and re-designed. And was funded under priority identified by UT via that state capital improvements budget provided to colleges.

I walked the mall with my daughter on a tour a couple years ago. While I get some things might need repair I am not sure that a complete overhaul is needed.
The mall is a big asset to the campus.

Mall is a big asset-hence need for upgrades and improvements, including removing full road and reducing to emergency lane only, many sidewalks have cracks, and road has potholes. Mismatching of temporary repairs. Opportunity here to enhance and preserve high quality award winning landscape.

I love how far UT’s campus has progressed over the last 50 years. Overall it’s a beautiful campus. Centennial Mall is the crown. The campus is clean and relatively well maintained. I’m always in favor of jumping on maintenance issues like sidewalk cracks or any building physical defect. Centennial Mall is showing some age so I applaud the timeliness of this project.

Guess asking you to make a useful and helpful contribution to the topic is a lot to ask. I have no problems with opinions, at least with those who actually care to express one. I work at UT so yes I have some information I can share that is based on actual experience and facts, not speculation or simply posting on a topic that one knows absolutely nothing about (you were clearly wrong about SM renovations). Feel free to express opinion, just try actually have one that is helpful and informative. Sorry if you think my informed knowledge and expertise about UT comes off as "self serving" or "elite status", too bad you can't appreciate that someone actually has knowledge to share and contribute here, and perhaps you could learn from. At least when it comes to MBB or CFB posts here that is approach I take in learning from others rather than act and state as if I am all knowing about every topic.
