Twitter account "Big Game Boomer" tweeted a list of the best bars in each college town.
04-cheers

Here's his list of the ACC's "best bars":
Boston College - The Circle Tavern
Clemson - The Esso Club
Duke - Shooters II
Florida State - Bullwinkle's Saloon
Georgia Tech - Moondogs
Louisville - Magnolia Bar
Miami - Sandbar
UNC - He's Not Here
NC State - Boxcar Bar + Arcade
Notre Dame - Corby's Irish Pub
Pitt - Hemingway's Cafe
Syracuse - The Evergreen
Virginia - Coupes
Virginia Tech - Top Of The Stairs
Wake Forest - Finnigan's

I'll vouch for VT - TOTS is the right call. What about the other schools - did he get those right or not?
I'm not a fan of those clone type bars. They are all exactly alike except for the 2 photos they found that vaguely allude to the local area. With the background noise from all those games you might as well be at Chuck-E-Cheese.

Players Retreat in Raleigh (playersretreat.net). It's a college pub. It's across the street from campus. And they have a Scotch Club with 180+ single malts.

THE PLAYERS RETREAT IS CLOSED TEMPORARILY

Hello friends and family. We want to give you all a quick update. First of all, we at the Players Retreat hope everyone is healthy, safe, and provided for. We want you to know that although we are remaining closed for the time being, we look forward to the day we can welcome you back to enjoy a great time with family and friends. When we have a date for that, we will let you know. We want you all to know that we love you, we miss you, and we can't wait to serve you. Please stay safe.

Maybe I'll check it out when it reopens.
I got a comment on my blog from an FSU fan suggesting that "Potbelly's" is a better choice for Tallahassee.

Their website states: "Potbelly’s is not a college bar but rather a Downtown live music venue with college nights." Maybe that's why BGB didn't pick it?
Never been to the one listed for Syracuse. Had only been in business for 6 years. As with all lists they are subjective.

At least you won't be drinking and driving, eh? 04-cheers
(OTOH, if you can't stumble home from that distance, you should probably cut back)
I have never been to Magnolia Bar, and it is in Old Louisville right by campus ...

But THE bar for U of L students, especially for game watching, would be The Granville. During U of L games there would be a couple of pep band people (I always assumed alums) that would really add to the atmosphere playing fight song type songs during timeouts throughout the game. Really good pizza too. And everything from cheap beer, to high end beer on tap. It is a bit of a dive bar, at least it was.

I have no idea if this is still the hot spot, but it's closer to campus than Magnolia Bar, and I would think would still be a hot spot for campus.

Unless it didn't survive COVID. A possibility I suppose.

CardinalJim can attest to me liking tailgates.

Which lot are you in? Last time I was there we had about 100 Cuse fans in a private lit near the Pharmacy...just over the bridge from the south end of the stadium.

Wasn't the Granville noted for really good burgers, too?

Man I’m pushing 60 and I have never been there. Honestly I don’t know anyone that’s ever gone there.

To see Mag Bar pop up as the best bar in Louisville on any list is a little strange to say the least.

I would have guessed Zanzibar or maybe one of the neighborhood dives like Creekers, The Bambi or The Back Door.

Mark likes to tailgate. He’s a damn good cook too. What were those dogs you cooked? We had a blast that day. Greg and I were talking about it yesterday on a thread on the realignment board. I’m getting the table top ready to make some Apple Pie for tailgating.

I’m down to my last three jars from last summer’s batch after Lana and her bunko girls got into my stash. 03-lmfao

The lot we tailgated in back in 2015 was the Boy Scout lot on the southwest corner of 3rd and Central. It’s directly diagonal across from Louisville Baseball’s Jim Patterson Stadium.
The hot dogs were Hofmann's

I plan to bring them up to Louisville. You can get them at Publix in Florida.

I'm trying to figure out how big to make the tailgate this year. I expect 40 minimum right now.

That’s great news…
Do you still have the contact info for the Boy Scout lot?

I assumed the list was going for best campus bar, which is why I thought Granville Pub would be the choice. There's not much around campus frankly (maybe due to the presence of the Red Barn on campus for so long?).

If they were just going for best bar in the city ... well that opens it up quite a bit. From downtown, to Nulu, to Bardstown Road, to St. Matthews, Clifton/Frankfort Ave corridor .... tons of places, and I haven't even mentioned the south end of town.

Yes .. all round good pub food. But it's been a bit since I've been there. No telling how things are now.

I like the Old Louisville Tavern at 4th & Gaulbreth. Great little bar
My son had an apartment behind the bar when he was an undergrad at UofL.
