the curious thing is they started the year playing several top 25 teams and were competitive.

Surely there'll be a change after this season. There are Memphis area HS coaches that could recruit & coach this team to competence in the AAC

Pathetic, leading 3-2 in the 5th. Houston had runners 1zt and 2nd. We miss play a bunt into a 2 base error and 2 unearned runs.

The baseball team has 1 player batting over .300.

They are ridiculously bad.

Both teams split DH. With the winning team scoring 12 runs in three of the four.

Don't follow Memphis HS baseball but I'm sure there are 2-3 Memphis-area HS coaches who have a proven record of success & who knows the high school talent around the midsouth. Remember years ago AL Brown, who has to be considered one of the successful Memphis baseball coaches being almost immediately successful at Memphis coming directly from Overton High. He recruited very well around Memphis & won at a pretty good % - especially compared to the last few years.

HS coaches really don’t coach fundamentals anymore… Buster does at CBHS, but he requires his kids to play with him all summer. The rest coach March - May and leave the instruction to private lessons and summer travel programs. The guys with the connections are the guys who run the summer programs… the Joe Caruso’s… the Ed Easley’s… the Corey Sumner’s. Those guys have regional recruiting connections the local HS coaches simply don’t. HS baseball coaches… outside of a handful… are lazy.

Don't disagree, it like that here in GA when talking averages but there are probably 1-2 coaches who know HS aged baseball in the midsouth & who could likely recruit. Don't forget there's a pretty low bar at Memphis right now. And there is good HS level BB in the midsouth, it just needs to be recruited & coached - even if Memphis doesn't get the A-level recruits it would be better than what we are seeing now. And BTW even when Al Brown was coaching HS, most of his counter-parts at area schools were March - May too & lazy while Brown was heavily involved in summer programs even when he wasn't coaching then directly.

I’m not so sure how much depth there is in the MidSouth for baseball talent… certainly in comparison to the talent Houston, UCF, USF, Tulane & ECU have in their backyards. Take a look sometime of the number of teams the Memphis area sends to the WWBA @ Perfect Game in Emerson, GA in comparison to those other regions. It’s not just Memphis Tiger baseball that sux… CBU is awful, SWTCC is dreadful and the talent pipeline that has fed those schools has dried up. So, the next coach has got to be able to go into Louisiana, Georgia, TX & FL and recruit kids. Hell, Roc seems to go to Illinois for talent… why, I’ll never know.

I really don’t remember much about Brown, but I do remember some of the great American Legion teams around that time. It just seems like that level of baseball (around here) is lacking these days. But I was gone for nearly thirty years so maybe I don’t know where to look. It definitely doesn’t get much coverage.

The exponential growth of lacrosse in the Memphis area has taken its toll on baseball.

I went to Memphis State when the football team was lucky to win one or two games a year.

So, something like this to happen in baseball doesn't worry me. I just hope either we get better next year, or, we get a new coach.

In the coillege level .300 is decent but not great.

actually there are two over .300 but one of them only has one time at bat.

Of those who have played about half of the games we only have two over .250
