Ty Groce goes from EMU to Butler. Michael Nuga goes from Kent St to UNLV. The only remaining "impact" MAC Player left in the Transfer Portal is Western Michigan Forward Greg Lee who averaged 13 ppg. last season. Of course, everyone is waiting to hear whether or not Jason Preston will turn Pro or come back for another season. With him returning, the Bobcats will be the overwhelming favorite to win the MAC Championship next season, without him, they will still be very good with their freshman backup point guard from this season, Mark Sears most likely taking over.
For those interested, Southern Indiana Transfer Emmanuel Little who Toledo offered this spring is transferring to Nicholls St.

Thanks for the update, Basketball Jones. Wonder what the attraction was that made Nicholls State a better choice in his mind...is he from Louisiana? Or did he just wait too late and then we filled all our schollys before he decided?

Oh well—as someone else on this board wisely said once: “Dude’s gone. Move on.”
must not been a impact player after all, so long
that team down south is loading up on transfers. huger has signed a couple all league guards from slightly lower level D1 conferences, a former 4 star guard who was starting at evansville and a 6-8 forward who started for a pretty good ODU team. plus, plowden is coming back. not sure how it will all fit together, but on paper they are as deep as any team in the MAC now

A 6’8” forward who averaged 8 points & 5 rebounds in about 25 mins/game. Even that would have been a welcome addition to Toledo via the transfer portal for some proven help inside. While it’s true that you never know how new additions fit on, I agree that on paper BG filled their holes & made themselves a better team.

Maybe TK wanted another guard.

Verbal commits says BG added Kent State transfer Gabe O'Neal today as well. Undersized - but pretty good - post player. How many scholarship players do the Falcons have now.

seems like 47. they sign a new kid every other day. got at least 1 maybe 2 or 3 covid year seniors coming back. since those don't count, they could realistically have 15 or 16 guys on the bench without walk-ons.

Diggs is coming back for his extra year, as well. Huger may not be a good coach, but he can recruit. He’s brought in so many guys that there may be a bit of a roster crunch. Only Ziegler, Turner, and Washington are gone from last year. Should be a really balanced team next year, but like others have said, you never know with transfers. Plowden returning is so important, though.

15 players on scholarship. that will be interesting.

Speaking strictly as a party of one ... It doesn't particularly feel right to have players transferring within the conference. I understand it ... but in a league like the MAC, where almost every team is a rival on some level with just about every team in the league, just doesn't feel kosher.

NIU player to Ball State, Ball State player to Akron, Kent State player to BG; ... the first came via a coaching change, the second came via a grad transfer ... the third appears to be - on some level - the product of past association. The first can be swallowed, the second is sour but palatable if that's your taste, but the third - if true via direct old AAU/HS relations - is rancid.

I might be wrong on all counts, but from the outside looking in just not a good look for the teams involved or the league. And this is just the first year of the rule. Can't fathom what this will look like in the future.
I can't see how a grad transfer to anywhere would be objectionable? By any measure, that person has fulfilled their obligation haven't they?

True ... but only one (Walton I believe) is a grad transfer.
Walton will be a 7th year college student so hopefully a post-graduate transfer. I'm with East on grad transfers, let them play wherever they want. I don't have a problem with the intra-conference transfer rule change. It may smell a little, but with the transfer route expanding so much you are basically eliminating a pool of talent from your league if you disallow these transfers. Logically, most MAC kids are MAC level players with roots or connections in the MAC footprint. So, many would see other MAC schools as possible transfer options. I think the transferring will sort itself out if the NCAA is consistent about the rules. You have a 1 time free transfer option, but if they start selectively giving waivers and such it will get muddled quickly. Make the rule clear and stick to it, so kids know their options and can make a good decision. This year the MAC is doing pretty well in regards to transfers with more value coming into the league than leaving it, imo.
I see former Western Michigan Power Forward Brandon Johnson is on the move again as he just entered the Transfer Portal and is leaving Minnesota as they just had a coaching change. Even though the Rockets don't have room for him, I always liked him as an opposing player in the MAC!

That’s a wet dream for many on this board who want to be able to go 12 deep...
