SC rescheduled our game lost this past season for 2025. They will now pay us $1.4 mil to come kick their butts.

I believe App St just got announced on their 2025 as well? Would be a great OOC feat to beat an SEC twice.
I can't wait to see App beat them in Boone.

USC will probably buy the game out, as they usually do with return trips.

They'd owe us $1.5 MM to cancel. Lets see if they are paying another huge buyout at the time, they may not have enough to justify buying it out.
Watching the Muschamp and Frank Martin situations, South Carolina has shown a tenancy to be unwilling to pay big buyouts. I think they make the trip as planned.
I'd put South Carolina coming to Boone in 2025 at about 25%.
I wish they would honor their commitment, but hard to see them in Boone.
they will initially push it back a few years

then delay

then renegotiate until App puts a foot down to play or pay

then they will give you a little extra cash to come to columbia a few years later
Hoping that we see North Carolina in 2022 and South Carolina in 2025 at Kidd Brewer. That is what the schedule says right now. 04-cheers

If they do “chicken out” on the return game in Boone, then we should take some of the payout and rent a few billboards in Columbia.

Lmao, this is so on brand for Carolina. They do this all the time. In a couple years, they will announce the trip to Boone had to be cancelled or pushed back even further.

They have done this to us multiple times in the past. We sign a 2 for 1, then magically they demand the return trip to Columbia, and their trip to Conway get swapped. Then it gets delayed, and then it just magically disappears entirely. USC almost negotiates in Bad Faith

If USC wants to pay almost $2 million for a 180 mile drive then, show Yosef that money. Yes it would be great to have USC in Boone in 2025, but at the moment when COVID squeezed the hell out of the budget it's nice to start filling the coffers with games the alumni base can easily make.

I believe that they did this to ECU several times recently as well. This year they FINALLY will play in Greenville as scheduled. That is unless they buy it out last minute for a game against South Carolina State or something, which would be on brand.

I said when this thread first started that USC would back out of the game in Boone; I believe I said it when the series was first announced several years ago. South Carolina's football team will never end up in Boone.

If I'm App State, I refuse every offer made to change the schedule. Not sure of the contract language but teams like App and Coastal need to maximize the buy out of return trips against P5's like USC in the event that they back out. App will likely have to replace USC with an FCS or MAC school on the schedule and that is punishment enough for fans and local business.

App isn't having to replace USC with an FCS game. The 2025 game is changing from Boone to Columbia. App is getting $1.95 million dollars for the troubles. Which is valued the same as 32,500 tickets sold at $60

What is the difference in App's gate for a game against USC versus a game against Morgan State? Let's say there are 36,000 tickets purchased for USC ($60 per ticket) (not doing math for the hit on season tickets) and probably 24,000 for Morgan State ($40 per ticket), the difference in ticket revenue alone is $1,080,000. Now lets suppose season tickets are $400, if you lose 2,400 season tickets purchased, you now have reached what your gate would've been had the USC game been played ($2,040,000).

So the buy out of the contract likely doesn't even pay for the financial impact to the program of losing the game. Then you factor the impact to local businesses of the 36,000 who attend the game and the other several thousand who just show up in Boone for the circus.

Play the damn game. Don't let USC back out if you can help it. If you can drive up the cost of buying out the contract with a promise to a future game in Columbia and likely Charlotte, you do it. Not sure of App's leverage but USC has been doing this for quite some time and it really sets back scheduling when games are now scheduled 5 years in advance.

You're doing a lot of math for a hypothetical that isn't happening. App isn't replacing USC with Morgan State. App's 2025 game with USC is moving to Columbia.
We all saw this coming, classic P5 move, play the 1st game in Columbia, push the Boone game way in the future, then keep pushing the Boone game out, pay us off then eventually cancel the game altogether, they ain’t coming to Boone.
I'd make them pay all of the guarantees up front, fill the coffers with a couple million bucks, then buy ourselves something nice.

Should've moved it to Charlotte. Or forced a buy out. I'm not sure how Gillin could replace the game but taking a $1.95 million payout to play the game is still less than App would've booked on gate alone had South Carolina decided to make the trip to Boone.
