No doubt you've seen and heard other mid majors signing transfers and moving forward with building rosters.

I love the Stan Heath hiring, but sorry I don't think the turnaround will be quick. And as for season tickets well lets see what kind of team we will be watching. So far he hasn't been on the job for very long but hey we need a front line to compete in the MAC and right now we don't have one.

Lots of patience and hard work are anticipated before Stan takes back to being competitive in the MAC. With the exception of CMU his fellow associates in the MAC are taking steps building or completing their rosters.

Hopefully we move forward soon on adding players that will help turn this program around.
I think we need guards who can score. We have had some good front line players like toure, bryant, riley, JT4. We were good-mediocre but not great, its a guards game who can shoot it and handle the ball.
I expect to see results by year 3
What are results.. division title? Conference finals appearance?

I would define results as competing for a division title or conference finals appearance

Absolutely, the way above average coaches by year 3 you see significant changes! If you don't, in many cases you won't.........Can this new staff recruit above average talent at the MAC level,.........Ray Lee or JTIV, but then run a structured system!

More forum dreaming.

Want a great recruiter and great X and O coach.

Maybe that coach in Ann Arbor or that one in E. Lansing or better yet, Few at Gonzaga?

Normally it is very, very hard to find a mid major coach who are great recruiters and game coaches. For obvious reasons. Those coaches get promoted and promoted until they hit the Peter Principle (above their level of competency).

George Mason had hired a great X and O coach, Dave Paulsen, but he couldn't recruit at the A-10 level and got fired.

Folks here thought Murphy recruited well but didn't have the game coaching skills they thought he should have.

Lot of fantasy life on these forums...
I guarantee Heath gets a MAC championship within 3 years.
I believe Heath's own words were that "it won't take long".
In his interview with the WTKA, he talked about how he had to manage roster turnover every year in the G-League, so he's used to coaching through change and assembling teams.
I'm not saying we'll be voted preseason MAC champs in year one or even raising a banner at the end of year one, but his own words have set the bar pretty high.
Let's not get too worried about it just yet and try to enjoy the ride.

Agree. We are in the honeymoon phase. We have not played a game yet.

There are plenty of sport contests to be played before our first MBB game of the Heath era. (I got the Tigers on; Wizards tonight, etc.).

And we haven't signed a player yet
The punch is gone and so is the ice cream
Let's get a,staff hired and get some players
I am hesitant to put a timeline on Heath’s success. I think it will be sooner than many expect.

We are in unprecedented times. College basketball has free agency and has waived the sit out year.

There is a TON of transfer talent out there, and that doesn’t even include junior college guys. I’m going to sit back and enjoy watching Heath assemble his roster. It will be fascinating and exciting, and optimism will be pretty high once we see the incoming talent.

You are 100% correct. We haven't even got into a serious discussion of JUCOs.

Here is verbal commits on transfers. I have the sort with new school = ' ' (nothing listed). Then I went through using the slider to guess what percentage of those listed have ' ' as his new school.

It appears to be well more than half. Say 60% or more.

If so, that would be about 700 - 800 uncommitted D-I players in the transfer portal.

First of all Stan needs to assemble a staff, so he is recruiting primarily for coaches at the present time.

Next he needs to recruit our best players in the portal. Apparently he turned McBride around, next the big prize Groce. Gibson showed potential, I'd like to keep him as well. Their scholarships will not count against the limit due to virus modification but any new players will.

Frankly I would not be in a big rush to get a lot of new guys signed, unless they are dead bang winners. The transfer portal is full of kids that are certain they will find greener pastures immediately, but this game of musical chairs will come to a choke point soon. Kithier from MSU is a smart kid, he made Valpo his next destination choice soon and he will be a force there. I still see a bunch of his ilk out there desperately looking for a home at some point, with a choice of being a Power 6 bench guy or a potential MAC star.

You nailed it, Jerry.

In a couple weeks, it won't be, "This is coach Heath from EMU, would you like..."
but, "Coach Heath, I would like to play basketball at EMU next season..

In a few weeks, the coaches will be in the driver's seat..

Cow you speak the truth! This time is totally unprecedented. I truly don't think Stan Heath has a established template for recruiting success to follow as a result.

The one and done recruiting strategy a few years ago of Calipari and subsequently Coach K was red hot until it was not. Chris Beard took Texas Tech to the NCAA finals with a load of transfers while Hawkins at WMU remained focused on four year players and was shown the door despite a stellar career. Beilein and Roy Williams got the hell out, they did not like what they saw and did not want to be a part of it.

This will be fascinating!

Right on, Jerry. The developmental gurus of college basketball detest what is happening. Kids are generally impatient naturally, and now the NCAA has created a system to cater to their whims.

It empowers players. Is that right or wrong? I have no idea. But transition will be constant. And having a coach and staff with recruiting contacts all over the country will be more important than ever. And those who are able to do that successfully will be able to turn things around quickly.
Thanks for sharing, Luckey! Listening to him talk, I am so excited for the Stan Heath era. That man is so professional and confidence inspiring. He will have no problem recruiting! Interesting though, he says in the interview that he is looking for long term players rather than short term. Not sure how feasible that will be with current era.

This coach has a Tweet for those who think the recruiting pond has gone dry and those who need recruits will be in a recruiting desert...
