Matches are underway - no upsets in the first four contests. In fact, only one of the four even went into a 4th game.
Pepperdine swept UMBC and faces Baylor in the next round
San Diego sweeps an overmatched TAMU-CC team and now faces Louisville
Missouri sweeps South Dakota and next faces Ohio State
Notre Dame loses a game but beats Army in 4 and now will face Oregon
The Rice match is the final group of the night and is scheduled to begin around 9 pm Central time.
High Point University leads 2-1 vs UCF.
Morehead State leads 2-1 vs Creighton.
First upset-- Morehead State takes down Creighton
High Point and UCF going to a fifth set.
High Point wins 5th set 15-10.
Morehead State (the Ohio Valley champs) takes down Creighton (the Big East champs) in 5 and now will play #8 Florida
High Point (the Big South champs) takes down UCF (the AAC champs) in 5 to remain undefeated on the season. They'll play #7 Purdue in the next round.
The other 2 mid-afternoon matches went per form. Texas State beat Utah Valley in 4, and Dayton swept Towson. Texas State next faces Nebraska and Dayton will meet Washington.
It's so tough to gauge if any of these are true upsets just because there were so few non-conference volleyball meetings during the year. I mean High Point is 17-0 on the year and Morehead State is 17-1.
It's still hard to figure out if NC A&T is any good. The only non-conference team they faced was East Carolina, a team that was 1-7 in the AAC (same conference as UCF) and they split their two meetings.
True, by both RPI and Massey they are upsets but not as major as some would think.

They watch the game on a really large TV and play what would be the usual songs during the times out.

The announcement about the game fades into gibberish as they reach the object of the sentence.
And ESPN shuts off the audio as an announcement about the match was made. Turned it back on when "due to privacy issues" nothing else will be said.
