So I figured we look ahead to next season after coming up short on Monday.

Let's face it, the last COVID-19 pause ruined any chances of winning the title, but that was the hand we were dealt.

I'm going to borrow a post from a long-time fan from Dieharddogs who pretty much summed up Monday night...

Couple things ...

-Hats off to Alexander Nwagha. He played his arse off and changed the tenor of the game in the second half with his defense. Really competes on the glass. Maybe another young guy worth developing further next year.

-Vito Cubrilo also played well Monday night. Contributed in different ways and played better really than he had in any previous game.

-Telfort was immense all night and almost willed the team to a win. His ability to get inside and finish with either hand is quite impressive. Monster performance by him.

-Last thing ... I love the toughness this team shows. Down 13 and playing without so many pieces (and who knows how many playing well below 100 percent) it would have been easy to pack it in. They didn't and they put some serious game pressure on Drexel and made them earn it. Of all the things that impressed me about this team this season ... the toughness is at the top of the list. And that starts with Walker ... who even though he didn't play his best game on Monday he's as tough as they come and never gives an inch.

I think that summed up Monday night and the season in a nutshell...

As for 2021-22, we have two guys in Walker and Telfort who are legit 1st team players. We also have Shaq Walters back who is an excellent defender and gives us scoring and length. We'll have freshman PG To Randriasalama to give Tyson a rest and he has the size at the point (6'3") that Coen usually loves.

But what we need is another big. Like a 6'10" big to go along with Doherty, Eboigboden and Nwagha. Let's hope we can land one via transfer. As we know they're hard to recruit and land. NU did land one in Andre Weir, but he got influenced to not sign with us and went to Richmond, where he had problems and left the program.

We have everyone back and have Randriasalama coming. I love what the future holds... as long as we don't have anyone transfer like J'Vonne Hadley did.

Rather than repeating the ninety-five percent of what we agree on I'll comment on where we don't.

1. Vito. I've been restrained about being critical of individual players this year. On some CAA boards the fans constantly berate their players. But now is the time to reflect. Vito made two layups in his last game. Great. He looked lost the rest of the season.

2. I don't think our biggest need is another five. We already have E, Doherty, Nwanga and Brawn at that position. Can we devote five roster spots to that position? If Stucke had produced more I would feel differently but I think we need a Telfort clone. More scoring and rebounding from the other forward spot.

3. Hadley is gone because Coen felt he didn't deserve game time......for whatever reason. I wish him the best but it gives us the chance to replace him with someone who can contribute.

If there's one kid that's going to take a step up and improve IMO, it's Stucke.

I think he'll be a more rounded player with the ball in his hands. He showed plenty of flashes of being able to drive and get to the rim. Look for his scoring to go up.

How do you know Braun will contribute? The kid didn't play the whole season until the tourney. And he only played a total of 5 minutes. We don't know.

Vito DID play quite a bit in the early non-conference. Was he great? No. But again, if he works this summer he could contribute more consistently off the bench.

Not having Hadley hurt in the tourney. I don't know why he couldn't wait until it was over to leave. That doesn't happen often. He probably would've got the minutes Vito played vs Drexel with his size and athleticism.

I do think NU will also look for another guard as well. One that can shoot the rock.
That's a good point about Stucke driving to the hoop lately. He's clearly trying to add that to his game. On Braun, I haven't seen any signs that he's ready to contribute yet.
BC hired Earl Grant as their head coach, in case there was any lingering suspicion about Coen this time around. Interesting hire for sure.

Hmm.....I wonder if three CoC players entering the transfer portal is related to that?
From what I heard BC’s AD wanted a minority hire for this position.

BC had been turned down by both Shaka Smart of Texas and Mike Boynton of Oklahoma State.

Everything being said, this was still a surprise in my book.

Grant’s a good recruiter but I’m not sure he’s a good in game coach.

Coen has owned him head-to-head except in the title game a few years ago.

Agreed. 100%

BC in the ACC is a tough job assignment and it would take a really special coach to pull it off like a Calhoun going to UCONN or a Pitino at Providence.
Very surprising and a questionable hire at best
