Hogs lose 2 football scholarships, and 6 paid recruiting visits for next season. They're on prob. until April 2006 in all athletic programs.

No loss of TV or bowls. Most everyone seems pleased with this outcome of the way-too-long and drawn out NCAA process. This has been going on since before Houston Nutt's regime, and the NCAA ought to be taken to task for taking that long.

Maybe I'm too sensitive about this whole process but it seems like EVERYONE gets off a lot lighter than we ever did. Maybe our violations were more serious or larger in terms of numbers. I don't think so!

It's because we're Ole Miss!
That's what I'm talking about....why?
Yeah, we're just not p.c. or media darlings or whatever it seems to take nowadays. I agree that our sanctions were worse in comparison to many other schools. I thought the heavy scholarship loss over the Brewer probation was overkill. They certainly killed us.
That sucks! It sucks anytime the NCAA nazis are on any of our backs. Yes, Arkansas is probably lucky that it wasn't worse, but I for one am sick and tired of the NCAA. Everytime I turn around, it seems like they are hounding one of our schools for something! :bang: :bang: :bang:

I'm with you on that one. The problem is they don't have their priorities straight. Last year they made San Diego St give back some schollys b/c some of the offensive players got together for a little summer pickup game and one of the guy's beach house. I mean come on. How is that hurting anyone?

And then they put their foot down on us back in '99 when they made George O'Leary coach the Navy game from the coaches box after he gave former tailback CJ Williams $200-300 as a loan for some school books three years earlier (which got paid back within a couple weeks). I think it's b.s. how they crack down on little crap like this when there are plenty of big issues that they need to take care of.

JJ, I may be wrong about this so correct me if I am, but isn't a pickup game legal? I always thought that players could get together on their own and it wouldn't be considered a "countable" practice by the NCAA. The coaches can only have so many "organized" practices and scrimmages, but my understanding was that the players could, if they took the initiative, have a few extra practices on their own, without any coach supervision.

Legal or not, it's still a dumba$$ rule and you're right it was hurting noone JJ, but then again, over half of their rules are dumb as hell so it doesn't surprise me!
That's why you can't tell me that EVERY school HAS VIOLATIONS - some NEVER are checked and even if they were, nothing would happen! :bang:  05-nono 03-puke

Yeah, as far as I know it is legal as long as there aren't any coaches there. I know it is in basketball anyway. Maybe the NCAA thought it was too much of an "organized" game.

Here's another ridiculous case from back in 2001...

Quote:Utah nose guard Ma'ake Kemoeatu is under suspension for the final game of his career after the NCAA ruled he improperly provided textbooks to his younger brother Tevita.

Kemoeatu, will miss next Tuesday's matchup with USC in the Las Vegas Bowl after Utah discovered the violation and reported it to the NCAA.

As a scholarship player, Kemoeatu gets textbooks at no charge, but the four-year starter let his brother, who as a walk-on is not allowed to receive such benefits, borrow three extra books. The Utes discovered the discrepancy when Kemoeatu turned in his books at semester's end last week.

Kemoeatu repaid the university for the books, but the NCAA requires a one- game suspension, and turned down Utah's appeal to permit Kemoeatu to play.

The Las Vegas Bowl will be only the second game Ma'ake Kemoeatu has missed in his career.
Now they are being Nazis about books? Good Gawd!!! They lay down these extreme rules with grades, which I half-way agree with because they all need to be studying and getting an education, but then they hammer a kid for trying to help his brother learn by lending him some books? Geeesh, what the hell do they want?

man... that's going overboard!!!
Sounds like only geeks and bookworms run the infraction committee, real people would use some common sense when analyzing a thing like that.
Apparently common sense has nothing to do with the NCAA!
They took 39 months to investigate Ark. as compared to 16 mos. for UK and 16 for Bama. The other two had worse (Bama far worse) stuff to investigate. The NCAA has grown into a monster which needs to be-headed. The universities and conferences need to all drop their memberships on the same day; make their own TV deals, bowls, etc. and screw the NaziCommunistAtheisticArseholes.

Other than that I'm having a great day... :D

Whattya expect? That little $**t Miles Brand is running the show. He is the one that ran Bobby Knight out of Indiana. The guy reminds me of Bug Selig.
