from behind.

Cant see the ball the guy behind you a the same time. Pass to Martin as half wound down was a good example. High low early on.

If your matched up you just have to touch to know.

In front of you? Simply creep up and push the O out and back.

Need better plan of attack.

Watched earlier in the year Calvin hang with far less talent with cutting, fake a pass make a pass and no indecision on shots taken.

Zones are vulnerable if you have the talent to exploit them. We don’t.

Agree on the former not on the latter. Decisions on what talent to play and when is critical. Disappointed in what I saw. Another winnable loss.

Nice example of what I mean. The O doesn't match up it makes the D match and shift. EMU did a decent job on the perimeter but failed inside.

WMU got the ball in a good spot with attacking from behind. Not sure where Squeaky, likely near w-s block but suspect he occupied the 7' big who reacted running at Greg. But too late.

JoJo's cut (not just movement and recent hot hand) forced the b-s wing to track. Turning his back he was useless to help on Greg. If he did JJ simple fades to b-s corner and repeats what he had been doing.

Squeaky has w-s reb position. Perfect.
Another example .... in the 2nd half.

Bring up a threat near elbow. Squeaky repositions so that if if wing decides to double Lee Squeaky is open below the block.

Note Martin (and could be anyone) swinging from opposite side forcing D to "re-match" then coming up from behind Squeaky. Lee waits another second and you have a wide open corner J.

EMU guy on w-s reb area shifts to Squeak and lil guy on Squeak moves out to corner you still have corner that needs to be closed on and Squeak with "his guy" on his back.
Overload the weakside with misdirection away then coming back is effective.

Double post to occupy their two "matches" (match up zone). Likely posted Wright b-s on block to anchor b-s baseline starting Lee at w-s L then dropping Lee to w-s block. Forcing 7'r in middle to come up then move down opening middle.

Whitens with huge real estate to the baseline feints that way then drives the gap in the middle forcing help. In this instance the two w-s perimeters pulling them away from prospective shooters on w-s wing and corner.

Whitens makes great pass to WBR stepping to shot who could have easily zipped it to corner to Cruz for one too.

Again the D has to match by movement not simply being in a zip code.
This execution has two keys

1. A PG with a PG mentality to see the opportunity. Eyes aren't on rim.
2. Freeman is behind the zone. They don't see him.

Assure you BAW doesn't make this play. Wouldn't even see it. Even if planned would have had hesitation to pull trigger. Could have juked and nailed a 3 himself but never make that pass because he wouldn't see it. He is a scorer.

Lee open too ... coming up from behind.
I've made similar observations re B Artis. I stick by them. But it can change and will need to for both his growth as a player and the teams success. He's a talent. He's a personality. Pied Piper? Not sure but not important.

But I think this anecdote is applicable and important. MJ was one of a kind. But he never won a championship until he had an epiphany on the sideline of game 5 against the Lakers.

According to Phil Jackson it went like this ...

For Jackson, Jordan’s defining moment came during the team’s first championship run in 1991. After losing the series opener in Chicago, the Bulls won four straight games to defeat the Los Angeles Lakers, 4-1, in the Finals. During the fifth and deciding game, the Bulls faced a resilient Lakers team on their homecourt.

“We got stalled,” he recalled. “The Lakers were damn sure that Michael wasn’t going to beat them and stacked their defense against him. When I called a timeout, we talked a little bit about it on the bench. I asked him to tell me who was open because of how they were crowding him. He said Paxson. He knew it. I said, ‘OK,’ and that’s all I had to say.”

Jordan promptly fed Paxson for several jump shots, who connected on four-of-five down the stretch and finished with 20 points in 33 minutes.

Without that insight from Jackson Jordan was letting his talent dictate. Naturally. But when he verbalized the acknowledged fact in answering the question the weight shifted and trust established as Paxson delivered. Even the GOAT needed to be brought to pasture and shown.

In the middle coming from behind. Good example.
