Swimming, Diving, and Cross Country Championships were this weekend


California Baptist swept both men's and women's team and individual championships

There were 8 teams for the men, with Chicago State not participating. 6 women's teams competed with Chicago State not participating and Seattle and Tarleton unable to field full teams.

The meet was dominated by CBU and Utah Valley. They were first and second on both sides. In women's, the 2 combined for 9 of the top 10 spots. In mens, they were 8 of the top 10.


In men's swimming, the 3 Mountain West affiliate members took the top spots over the 3 WAC full members. In women's, the 4 WAC full members were mixed in with 3 Big Sky affiliate members. New Mexico State and Grand Canyon women were 2nd and 3rd after Northern Arizona.

Another championship weekend. Utah Valley wrestling will be at the Big 12 Wrestling Championships. UVU has a top ranked and second ranked wrestler in their weight classes.

Demetrius Romero, ranked 3rd in the nation by Intermat, previous Big 12 champion, currently undefeated on the season is ranked first in the Big 12.

Taylor LaMont, ranked 4th in the nation by Intermat, also currently undefeated on the season, multiple NCAA qualifier, ranked 2nd in the Big 12.

California Baptist wrestling will also be joining UVU in the Big 12 starting 2022-23.
California Baptist is playing host to the WWPA Mens Water Polo league championships March 5-6 and will start play against Loyola Marymount.

6th ranked Cal Bap won the WWPA Conference in water polo and is going to the NCAA tournament.
Cal Bap water polo is playing UCLA in the first round on March. The winner takes on Stanford in a semi final. Only 6 teams make it to the NCAA national championship.

UVU wrestling has 2 highly ranked wrestlers among the 4 they qualified for natioanls in St Louis this week. Demetrius Romero has moved up to number 2 in the nation at 174 and is still undefeated on the season. Taylor Lamont is ranked 7th at 125.

For reference, the top 8 placers per weight class earn all a American status.
UVU will finish as a top 25 team in the NCAA wrestling championship with 2 All Americans. Neither quite matched their rankings coming into the tourney, and one could not wrestle his final match die to injury but had advanced far enough to be AA.

Cal Bap lost to UCLA 19-14 in the mens water polo National Championship. Probably ending up in 5-6 in the nation.
