Thanks for the info. I’m not on social media.
Austin Gayle has 3 Bearcats going in the first round of his latest Mock Draft.

Sauce at 12.

Des at 18 to the Saints (my dream scenario for Des)

Sanders at 31.

To add to that, Kiper had Sauce going 12 to the Vikings in his first Mock as well. No other Bearcats, but mention of Ridder as being an alternative at QB for the Steelers, Lions, or Saints.

Yeah, the Cotton Bowl probably didn't help Rid's draft stock but Mel really softened his prior salivation over his potential as the first QB taken. I thought he might have a shot as a late first rounder but he can still help himself with a solid Pro Day workout and the combine.

I'd still bet on Des being a first round pick. That 5th year is good incentive to take a chance on a QB in the first round. I think somewhere between Mid First Round and Mid Second round is almost certain.

QB interested teams will certainly like his size and mobility. He's not Michael Vick/Lamar Jackson mobile but certainly his legs can be a viable part of his NFL game.

Yep, I'd imagine either the Lions, or another team trading into the first who can afford to stash for a year (Seahawks, 49ers, Panthers, etc.)

Russell Wilson would be a helluva mentor for Des.

I'm a bad talent evaluator. But I think the Cotton Bowl was good for Des.

He faced a defensive line that was on him before he even got to a 5-step drop, and knocked down 4 of his short passes. And his wide receivers dropped 3-4 passes. None of that is his fault, so why would NFL teams penalize him for it?

On the plus side, he was very accurate. I didn't see one inaccurate throw. He was 17/32, which is really more like 17/24 (71%) after you subtract dropped passes and deflections by d-linemen.

He threw zero interceptions.

He ran four times on RPOs and designed runs, and looked good doing it. Gained 32 yards (8 yards per carry).

All this against a defense that's projected to lose 5-6 guys to the NFL this year.

Doesn't work this way. Scouts always assume a certain percentage are going to get knocked down/dropped. He did not make any throws down the field.

I'm not arguing he hurt himself. Our line was completely blown up which didn't allow us to challenge them down the field. I just think because of how much our line got blown up it's a game if I'm a scout I'm just throwing out. I think Denbrock could have done a little bit more to move people around and maybe use some jet sweeps to stretch vertically but Des isn't the coordinator.

I'm not saying he dropped on everyone's draft boards. There's plenty of tape on him including his Notre Dame game. That said, a lot was made of his play against inferior competition/weak schedule. For him to be considered as the first or second QB taken [as Mel Kiper previously said was possible] then a solid performance in the Cotton Bowl wouldn't have hurt that mark. I'm not blaming him for the 6 points scored but it was not one of his better performances despite the competition. Believe me, I hope he gets a first round selection but it wouldn't surprise me if he goes early in round 2 either.
IMO, Des is not a 1st round, or even a 2nd rd talent. In fact, I'll be shocked if he has any type of successful career in the NFL. He'll probably get his chance to prove himself. Maybe even start a few games, but I don't see him being any more than a career back up. His stats compare to another very successful college QB (with size and speed) who was drafted in the late 1st round but never really "made it" in the NFL:

........................... Des.............QB X
Career record.........44-6...........48-7
Games...................50..............55

Who is QB X?.........Tim Tebow
He compares way better to QBY.

Career Record: 34-15
Games: 49
Completions: 734

Pct: 62.7

Also finished 8th in the Heisman voting.

QBY is Dak Prescott

Point being that the stats of most 4 year/3-year starters should look like that. There's way more to the story than those numbers. Josh Allen had terrible stats in college.

Who is QB X?.........Tim Tebow

He's got way better physical tools than Tebow, he's got a way smoother delivery, he was asked to make much more difficult reads in an offense that didn't get him many cheap yards. He also wasn't nearly as far along when he arrived at UC and it took him a couple years to really get his mechanics down and get a full grasp of playing the position. He may not end up being an NFL starter, but I think some UC fans really undervalue his NFL tools. His accuracy has come so far and he isn't picking up cheap stats.
Des and Tebow's biggest claims to fame is that they are both "winners". That was the reason for the comparison. (BTW, I didn't think Tebow was a very good QB and was drafted too high also)

Quote:SCOUTING REPORT: WEAKNESSES
Too often fails to give receivers a chance to make a play after the catch. High completion percentage padded by many quick screens.
Not the most accurate QB, where he has struggled with completion percentage up until 2020
Doesn't have a lot of touch on his passes
Takes too many sacks and this will likely be more of an issue in the NFL
Has struggled with his decision-making and needs to improve his pre-snap recognition skills to read defenses and see blitzes. Doesn't decipher information as quickly as you would like, but does see the entire field and understands coverage.

Quote:SCOUTING REPORT: SUMMARY
Ridder is a boom-bust prospect with similarities to Josh Allen. He’ll likely need time to be accustomed to the NFL game and develop his ability as a progression-style passer, but the foundation for him to become a dynamic dual-threat quarterback in the NFL is there if he can work on his accuracy issues.
Overall he's a very raw quarterback who has a chance to make the first round in the 2022 NFL Draft, although we regard him as more of a second-round prospect who could be featured early by a team that uses the RPO game.
That sight is wrong if they think his numbers were padded by quick screens. Uc did very little of that. He was one of the leaders nationally in air yards per attempt. He was one of the qbs with the fewest cheap yards in the country.

That's a pretty professional looking sight but I'm not sure anyone in the know runs it. Looks like a guy with like 40 twitter followers best i can tell.

You might be right. The multitude of other sites I've read is that Ridder's other weakness is ball placement. He has trouble placing the ball where his receiver can gain additional YAC. But I'd like to see a link where "fewest cheap yards in the country" are measured. From what I've read, the NCAA doesn't keep track of "air yards" like the NFL does.
