100% send that runner. No questions asked.
Have to disagree 100%. That guy cannot run and the guy in RF has a gun for an arm. And he was out by a ton so it makes it a pretty questionable, at best, call.

Cheers to that! They had a stellar season. I hope they can sustain this success and build on it going forward.
With no ODU, there's only one thing to do: Go Dallas Baptist! Go ... what the **** is their nickname? The Flying Bibles?
We deserved to lose this. Played like crap. Its baseball i guess.

The Patriots. Doesn't make sense either.

I’m thankful I got to enjoy the ride with this team and all the memories I have watching them play. It stinks to be so close to making supers and failing but they did a lot of things no other team in ODU history has done.

Best team we’ve ever had and it was a joy to follow all year long. The posters posting vile have been watching for a week.

Kudos to UVA, two very classy programs and one of us had to win. This was a tremendous accomplishment for our team and I hope we can retool and get back here next year.

What comes to my mind that may get over looked, is the double play that got over turned. Personally, I couldn’t tell if he had the ball or not, or if there was enough to over turn.

And people have been complaining all week that we need to send runners and make things happen etc. if hes safe, its a great call, if hes out, its a bad call and he should be fired.
Give credit to UVA for winning 4 consecutive elimination games. We just didn't play as well as we had been all season.

Another, and this counts for both teams, is that both teams scored on ground balls to the SS position when the SS had shifted to 2nd base.
Helluva run. Attaboys are deserved for this group and their resolve.

Who do you expect to cover the base when someone’s trying to steal a base?

Yep. Tried to get this bandwagon going early in the year when it was clear this team was different. But only a few noticed. That’s their loss though, missed out on a lot of fun baseball.

Now it’s time to build off of this and get the stadium updated.

When you don't have a baseball culture, and ODU hasn't had one despite producing MLB stars, it's hard to get a fire started. It's difficult to get a feel for how good a team is with our OOC schedule, which as usual wasn't anything sexy, and even the win against ECU was a midweeker, when nobody's throwing their ace and strange things happen. Individual games don't mean much when you play 60 of them, so an ECU win dissipates, as does a URI loss.

The culture-vs.-success issue has been an issue for the entire state. VCU was a second seed but they're still playing at the skank-ass Diamond. UVa nearly became a de facto D3 program. Richmond doesn't have lights on their field and had to play its super on the road because of it.

Getting 45 wins is a lot easier than getting a Southern-style culture, but I think we should at the least see how some of those programs approach game day ops, community engagement, amenities, traditions, the like, and see what can translate to Norfolk.
If we follow it up with a few more good seasons and NCAA appearances, that culture can develop. Do baseball players get the extra year of eligibility for Covid like the basketball players do? Do they get the free transfer too? Whats the prognosis for next year? Looks to me like we've got some good young players. Losing Battle may (or may not depending on Covid eligibility) hurt. But honestly, Ive only followed the team for about the last month or two.

Problem is a bunch of these guys will get drafted in the next MLB draft...losing a bunch of starting pitching and position players will hurt. Rebuilding a baseball team at the mid-major level takes time (usually)

Those are some good points but Im not sure they don't have a baseball "culture." I grew up with the program going to all the camps and being around the players like Jeff Ware and Wayne Gomes back in the day. There was certainly higher expectations. Now, I think we kinda fell off for a little while and fans are just now starting to realize how good of a team we have. If they can build on it, its possible.
Quick look at the roster shows we have very few seniors. Lots of talented underclassmen. Unless there's a baseball portal? We should have tons of talent coming back.

Question though. Some folks are saying we didn't play well and our bats were quiet. Can't help but wonder if this was a result of playing more talented teams as opposed to us just not playing well.
Attendance at games climbs every year as the weather goes from dreary to spring. We have a good base of fans. We just need the rest of y’all that enjoy baseball to come out. Plenty of opportunities to see these guys. And rally alley is maybe the best fan experience at ODU. Right on top of the action, great grilled food, beer and room for your crew to stretch out and enjoy the game. You can even bring your dog.

Trice, Petracci, Levari, Ransom are all freshman. Wheller is a soph. Coutney, Bell, Gagliardi, and Garriola are draft eligible juniors. I could see them coming back.
Battle is a senior.

Pitching wise Gregory, Hartline, and Moore are juniors and they would be very tough to replace. Rodriguez and Gomez are both freshman. Gertner will be back, im sure. Dean and Holiday should be back.
