He can come back next year, but I suppose he's ready to give the pros a try by now.
Drexel dominating in the first half.
I said when it happened that playing Drexel for a third time would end up biting us in the ass come CAA tourney time. In the words of DJ Khaled, congratulations Tribe...you played yourself.
Tournament is wide open both due to teams possibly not participating(like Charleston) and the Lewis injury likely dropping JMU down in talent by a lot. Realistically, any of the top 6 could win 3 games. Unfortunately, it looks like it won't be the Tribe vs Charleston, but Drexel. Dragons are talented and have a real shot to win 3.

Drexel just beat JMU. W&M has no one to blame but itself. Martin could have scheduled a game against Delaware this weekend, who were off because their regular opponent had Covid.

I don't think it is going to matter. Please don't blame Martin.

Delaware is too sharp to fall for that. They have already been granted their reprieve.
Elon and UNCW have now agreed to play a game tomorrow at UNCW!

This has a huge impact on who W&M will play as the #7 seed. If UNCW upsets Elon then their win/loss (2-5) percentage is 28.57% (if the CAA waives the minimum 8 game requirement) and they pass Towson (3-9) percentage of 25% and Towson moves to last place.

We are now locked into #7 seed due to Elon sweeping us and will play the #10 seed.

Therefore UNCW and Elon control their fate. IF Elon wins they must play Towson and UNCW play W&M. If UNCW wins they get a repeat game against Elon and W&M must play Towson.

Since UNCW last game was 1/31 with a loss to Hofstra and Towson last game was 2/14 beating NE, seems we should hope for Elon to add to their 3 game win streak so W&M can play UNCW. However if I am Elon, I think I would prefer to play UNCW next week in the Tourney versus Towson....

We will know the answer tomorrow...…..
My hats off to Elon and UNCW being proactive in getting a game this weekend especially when UNCW has only 7 players plus the team manager available to play and UNCW last game was 1/31!

W&M and Delaware took no action. This is odd since Delaware has not played since 1/31.

If W&M had played Delaware and won then our won/loss would have put us ahead of Drexel to maintain #6 seed! A loss would have not changed us from #7 seed. Delaware would still be a #5 seed if they lost and if they won would have moved up in the seeding to tie CoC for 3rd.

Looks like a missed opportunity for both teams to get playing experience as long as neither went on COVID pause due to the game....
Did any other CAA team play the same school more than twice? If not, then we deserve to play in the 7-10 game instead of having a first round bye. We would have finished 4-5 without that game, and Drexel would have finished 3-5. Maybe the football team should play JMU three times if one of the Elon games gets canceled this spring. Would that be a bad idea? Yes, and so was this.
Why don't we stop complaining and just be glad we have W&M MBB? It's been a valuable rebuilding year with a lot of promise. Let's enjoy it.

Just to be clear, your argument is that we should have not played any games that week because it might have affected seeding in a tournament that may or may not actually happen?

lol

+1

At many times this season, there was a good case to be made for shutting the whole thing down, as other programs have done.

Playing the game was fine, but counting it in the standings was wrong,as usual the CAA got it wrong
This. ACC probably would not have UNC and Duke play three times for fun. Also would not let them miss a game because they didn’t have enough “players” available. CAA is a joke.

Agreed we have the potential ROY plus a young team that has gotten experience!
I am appreciative our guys got to play at all during this crazy season, and I have no issues losing games we scheduled even when we didn't have to. But I'm interested in competitiveness, fairness and program success, and Delaware walking away from a game due to injury was none of those three things. I (and several others) said at the time that our players had every right to be pissed if that changed March seedings and, lo and behold, one foregone win put us at a significant disadvantage. It's a weird season and the league was right to make precautionary health measures, but this wasn't a Covid issue; this was a school who decided that playing its walk-ons (who would have loved to play) would be a competitive disadvantage and pressured the league into getting a mulligan in a weak spot. I am fine with taking lumps as they come, but that was the league pissing on our leg and telling us it's raining.

I pay for a monthly subscription just to watch the games and argue on an obscure forum about grainy Youtube highlights of some 16-year-old in a state I've never been to, so I obviously take it at least mildly seriously. I get bothered when it feels like others (the league, not you guys) don't.
Reflect on this fact:

"The CAA Men’s Basketball Championship has been one of the most competitive in the nation, with eight different schools having claimed the title over the past decade. During that period, two championship games have gone to overtime and three others have been decided by five points or less."
