We seem to be playing the best we have all season at the moment. We really only have 1 bad lose (FIU away). Splitting against Marshall and UAB is decent. I think we should compete well in the tourney, can't say that I expect us to win.

I think I'd go ahead and put LT in the top group. In fact put us and UAB there as well, though may be a step below. And there's nothing that shows UTEP is better than the group below it. Add Charlotte to the bottom.

1a. WKU/Marshall/LT/NT
1b. ODU/UAB
2. UTSA/Rice/FAU/UTEP
3. USM/MT/FIU/Charlotte

It does seem we're playing our best ball right now, so that's definitely a good thing.

I don't view Marshall as being a tier above ODU. They lost to ODU with a 21 point 2nd half lead when ODU was playing with 40% of their starters missing, including their leading scorer, their best 3 point shooter, and having not had a game in a couple of weeks. Marshall may finish up ahead of ODU in the standings, but that alone is not telling in the unbalanced schedules teams are forced to play this season.

We'll see when we play WKU. Either team could have won the WKU/Marshall series but WKU swept them. Marshall split with LT. They definitely deserve to be in the top. WKU split with Charlotte but that doesn't mean that Charlotte should be in the same tier as WKU. **** happens.

My comments regarding Marshall are based upon what I witnessed in the Marshall/ODU games. Any team that takes a makes a bunch of 3 point shots is going to have good games and look great at times.

I don't see the relevance of the WKU split with Charlotte to my post. It's pretty evident that Charlotte isn't on their level.

I've watched enough of Marshall to feel they can compete with the top of the league. I don't think they are the top but can play with them. I'm still not convinced that we can consistently but am feeling more optimistic. So far the best teams in CUSA we've faced are UAB and Marshall, we were definitely at a disadvantage against Marshall and still split. We split at UAB but the only other top team they played was LT and were swept.

Marshall like any other team that concentrates on the 3 point game can compete with anybody in the country so long as they don't turn the ball over, and are hitting a high enough percentage of their 3 point shots. When they aren't on from outside those kind of teams tend to look bad against decent competition.

I have no expectations for ODU to defeat WKU. I've said since before the season started that they are the strongest team in this conference and should consistently beat either Marshall or ODU. In my opinion ODU would have to play a crazy good game to not get swept. Of course, if something happened to Bassey - early foul trouble, illness, or injury - that would of course help ODU's cause a lot. Even at that, they still have the burly white guy that is a very good post scorer. At least he was last season. I'd like to see ODU hold onto 2nd just to be able to get the 1st round bye. Other than that, it doesn't really matter. I don't see ODU or Marshall winning the tournament. I expect WKU to be cutting down the nets, and if not them then either NT or Tech.

I agree with all that. Kinsey alone makes Marshall more than just a run and gun, volume 3 point shooting team though. WKU certainly should win the conference and probably should have the last couple of years with the talent that they recruit. So far though they're the reigning preseason champions.
The difference for marshall is they are actually playing good offense this year as opposed to having the appearance of playing good offense because of their tempo.

Western Kentucky is a good team as well but I can't trust Stansbury in game coaching.

I agree.
Marshall looks significantly better than us to me. The fact that we beat them in one of the two matchups did not convince me otherwise. They should have blown us out both games.
The fact that this ODU team is somewhere around the top tier of this conference is quite the indictment on the conference. This is one of the worst ODU teams I have seen play.
They should have considering we were without Curry and Oliver and our guys had spent 10 days on the couch immediately leading up to the game. But, we dominated them on the boards and beat them.

But 1 or 2 games is a tiny sample, either way.

Then you must not have watched much ODU basketball.

I will grant you that we were missing players, but they also were coming off a COVID pause.

Marshall had a weekend series cancelled because Rice had COVID. They could still practice. Our guys couldn't gather or practed for 10 days immediately prior to that series. That is what I was referring too...our guys played video games for 2 weeks. A couple (that were cleared) at some point went outside and shot outdoors. We couldn't meet or anything right before that series.

That pause was caused by another team. So they were still practicing while our guys were confined to their dorm rooms and apartments.
