According to his Twitter, looks like Latrelle Smith is leaving W&M. Shame. He was very solid as a true freshman.

Big loss that appears a very recent decision. He was on the practice field earlier this week.

That's a real shame. Our cornerback group is extremely young and he was slotted to be a leader for us for the next few years.

Strange decision. Passing up a great education and seemingly looking for a bigger stage. DBs are proven to make it to the next level from FCS ranks and from William and Mary. Another COVID victim in my estimation. The disconnect from coaches and teammates over the last year was tough. Other people get in ears. Good luck to a good player.

Nick Muse went to South Carolina a few years ago, so Smith might be taking that route.

Smith recently posted highlight tweets. That seemed odd at the time but makes sense now.

If he doesn't have something lined up already, seems like an odd time to leave a program with the season about to kick off, no?

W&M isn't for everyone. Other factors may have played into his decision.

Smith picks up an offer from Ball State. Not a surprise with the former Tribe coaches on staff there.

W&M for Ball State? Give me a break.

That offer is due to relationships. His main recruiter here was probably Coach Z, who is the DB coach there. Nate Atkins is a defensive grad assistant there. Friendly faces he knows and a fresh start would be appealing to him. Whether it is a perceived step up or down from W&M is irrelevant.

Ball State just won the MAC and a bowl game, some guys want to play at the FBS level

Not a thing wrong with Ball State. I hope he feels better there.

Latrelle has transferred to Ball State, per his IG page.

Ball State is the “JMU of Indiana”. Both are/were the primary state teachers universities in their respective States. Or if you prefer, JMU is the “Ball State of Virginia”. I guess both work.
