a simple procedure results in see-through wood

Quote:Researchers at the University of Maryland have turned ordinary sheets of wood into transparent material that is nearly as clear as glass, but stronger and with better insulating properties. It could become an energy efficient building material in the future.

...As window material, it would be much more resistant to accidental breakage. The clear wood is lighter than glass, with better insulating properties, which is important because windows are a major source of heat loss in buildings. It also might take less energy to manufacture clear wood because there are no high temperatures involved.

You thinking glass bat?04-cheers
The Star Trek crew came back in time to get two humpback whales and gave them the formula.
how much fossil fuel, how much CO2 was emitted, how many trees had to be murdered to produce that?
Cool.
In before the "scientists are all cucks so that's a stupid idea" crowd.

Everything is organized in leagues these days. No playing baseball in the sideyards.

And everyone gets a trophy.

The very things that came to my mind when reading the OP

While I like new inventions that have better properties than the ones they replace, 'wood' as I understand it is a much more environmentally 'dirty' and limited commodity than is sand in that it not only takes a toll to harvest it, but it eliminates a large 'sink' for some of the greenhouse gasses that it produces... so its a double loss.
Science is stupid.........
Out of all the things they could be putting their time and effort into....

I grew up in the country, so we were playing in a field away from any houses (so we thought). One kid hit a ball that broke an upstairs window in a house that had to be 400 feet away. He ended up at Alabama on a football scholarship, but blew out a knee and never played. He became a successful businessman and is now fighting cancer. I told his wife on Facebook to tell him that he could still whip my ass so he better whip cancer's.
What do you think is in all of the flatscreen tvs?

Probably the only time he wielded a bat was in Portland.
