USC and MSU post-poned til tomorrow....in the 7th, USC 2-0
VU leading LSU late in the game!

Way to go Rebs!!! I'm hoping that by our knocking their starting pitcher out in the first inning, that maybe that will mess up their entire rotation, we'll see.

Good job, TJ!!! My player of the game!!! Complete Game 04-bow
By the way, just checked the Gametracker again and it still says 9-0 Rebs in the first. Guess they didn't miss too much the rest of the game. Maybe that guy has a nine-run limit in his contract per game. 03-lol

At any rate, they really need to improve on that. That's definitely not the first time that's happened. It's a really cool gig if they'd just keep it updated.
Please, please, please keep this up! 04-bow 04-bow 04-bow
I STARTED WITH GAME TRACKER, AND WHEN THAT

Ole Miss Erupts Early In 10-2 Win Over No. 21 Alabama
Rebels send 14 batters to the plate in a nine-run first inning.

April 18, 2003
OXFORD, Miss. - Ole Miss sent 14 batters to the plate while erupting for nine runs in the first inning to cruise to a 10-2 win over No. 21 Alabama in the opener of a three-game Southeastern Conference series Friday night, in front of 2,163 at Oxford-University Stadium/Swayze Field.

With the win, Ole Miss improved to 23-15 overall and 9-7 in the SEC to take over sole possession of fifth place in the SEC Western Division. Alabama dropped to 26-12 overall and 8-8 in the conference to fall to sixth in the West.

After Brian Pettway struck out for the second out of the inning, Ole Miss recorded three straight hits off sophomore left-hander Taylor Tankersley. Chad Sterbens put Ole Miss up 1-0 on a RBI single to score Seth Smith and Charlie Waite followed with an RBI single to center to score Stephen Head.

Tankersley looked like he would get out of the inning down just 2-0 as he coaxed Drew Rogers to hit a grounder between first and second, however,Tankersley missed tagging first base on second baseman's Allen Rice's throw to load the bases. The error would open the door for seven unearned runs.

Dustin Cliburn walked to force home Sterbens to make it 3-0. Matt Tolbert cleared the bases with a double down the left field line to extend the lead to 6-0, and Jonathan Swearingen followed with another double to score Tolbert. Swearingen would steal third and score on passed ball to make it 8-0. After Smith walked to extend the inning, Brian Pettway belted a double to right center to score Smith and chase Tankersley with the Rebels up 9-0.

"You don't see that every day -- seven runs with two outs is very unusual," said Alabama head coach Jim Wells. "We had a couple chances to get out of the inning, but we gave them too many outs that inning.

"Sometimes things break down, and the pitching was not good, but we let runs in by not blocking the ball."

The nine-run outburst would be more than enough for senior right-hander T.J. Beam. Beam (6-1) recorded his first career complete game, allowing two runs on seven hits and walked none while striking out four.

"It's huge to be able to knock out a team's Friday starter," said Ole Miss head coach Mike Bianco. "It would have been nice to capitalize on more opportunities later. However, it was nice that the lead was so comfortable that T.J. was able to just go out there and work.

"Alabama is a great offensive team. We have to make quality pitches early in the count. Beam was able to do that tonight and (Anthony) Cupps needs to do that tomorrow."

Tankersley (5-2) was charged with nine runs, only two earned, on six hits and two walks in 2/3 of an inning in suffering the loss.

Junior right-hander Jared Woodward allowed one run on six hits and one walk, and struck out five in 7 1/3 innings of relief for Tankersley.

Waite finished 3-for-4 with an RBI and Tolbert was 2-for-4 with three RBIs to pace the Rebels at the plate.

Ole Miss out-hit Alabama 12-7 on the evening.

Travis Garner and Beau Hearod had two hits each for the Crimson Tide.

The two teams will continue the three-game series Saturday afternoon at 4 p.m., at Oxford-University Stadium/Swayze Field. Junior right-hander Seth Johnson (5-1, 2.63 ERA) is scheduled to start on the mound for Alabama, opposite freshman right-hander Anthony Cupps (3-1, 1.82 ERA).
