The Hawks begin a stretch where they will play 4 games in a 5-day span. This begins with 2 games @ Elon over the weekend (4 PM Saturday, 2 PM Sunday), and concludes with back-to-back home games with JMU on Tuesday and Wednesday.

Elon is winless (0-5) in CAA play thus far this season, the only team without a conference victory so far. But hosting a 1-5 UNCW squad certainly will give the Phoenix hope to snap that streak. A sweep for either team would be important for the winner and devastating for the loser.

Of Elon's 5 conference losses, 3 of them were non-competitive games. They fell by deficits of 23, 23, and 21 in losses against Northeastern, Delaware, and JMU, respectively.

An astounding 15 different players have seen the floor for Elon this season, with 10 of them receiving an average of 12+ minutes per contest, as 2nd-year head coach Mike Schrage has struggled to find a rotation that works.

At the very least, 4 of the starting options have been consistent for the Phoenix. Guards Hunter McIntosh and Ikenna Ndugba have started all 9 games. Forwards Hunter Woods and Federico Poser have received 8 and 7 starts, respectively.

Below is the projected starting lineup and key bench options for Elon this weekend.

Projected starters:

* PG Ikenna Ndugba (6-0 Gr.): 6.8 ppg, 2.1 apg, 4.2 rpg, 0.8 spg
* G Darius Burford (6-0 Fr.): 4.1 ppg, 0.9 spg, .727 FT %
* SG Hunter McIntosh (6-2 So.): 18.1 ppg, 2.8 apg, 1.1 spg, .394 3-pt %
* PF Hunter Woods (6-5 So.): 9.1 ppg, 6.9 rpg, 1.4 spg, 0.4 bpg
* C Federico Poser (6-9 Jr.): 8.1 ppg, 3.5 rpg, 1.0 apg, .542 FG %

Key bench players:

* G/F Jerald Gillens-Butler (6-5 r-Jr.): 15.7 ppg, 5.3 rpg, .500 FG %, 24.0 mpg
* G Kris Wooten (6-2 Jr.): 7.7 ppg, 1.2 apg, 1.2 rpg, 26.2 mpg
* F Chuck Hannah (6-7 Jr.): 2.7 ppg, 2.1 rpg, .526 FG %, 15.4 mpg
* F Simon Wright (6-7 Sr.): 1.6 ppg, 1.9 rpg, 0.4 spg, 15.4 mpg

The Phoneix have more frontcourt depth than the Seahawks, but lack frontcourt quality in the interior. As a team the Phoenix have no real rim enforcers, with just 11 team blocked shots all season compared to 30 for opponents. And none of their forwards are major offensive threats, with the team scoring carried heavily by wings McIntosh and Gillens-Butler. Still, they've done well on the offensive glass as a team, with 63 offensive rebounds compared to 61 for opponents.

Offensive efficiency has been Elon's biggest problem this season. They are shooting at just a .399 clip from the field, and a paltry .292 from the perimeter. Ken Pomeroy ranks the Phoenix # 276 in the country in Adjusted Offensive Efficiency.
I think the key with Elon is to jump on them early and they toss in the towel.
We have to sweep them. A split with Elon this weekend would be considered a failure in my book. Elon is that bad.
UNCW's five agonizing conference losses have all been by single digits. Elon's been massively spanked (20 or more) in three conference games. Prediction: UNCW sweeps these two games easily. Solid performances lately by Okauru, Pridgen and Boggs, and PG Shykiem Phillips likely makes his season debut.
Elon is a tough out at Elon.
We are 1.5 point favorites with the over/under at 141.5.

I’ve just been informed one of our players tested positive. Looks like these next 4 games are postponed.

I really see no reason to continue this season. What's the point now? Trying to play two games back to back on a weekend, then playing back to back games with one day rest is insane. The protocols are asinine. Positive tests in college students mean nothing. I say cancel the season at this point. I'm done, and i'm sure the players and coaches are as well. No way in hell we can make up six missed games at this point.

My daughter just played an entire volleyball season in HS with no testing and there were no problems at all.

I feel dirty writing this but I agree with you completely, play or don’t play. And if they follow the protocol, it’s going it be 6 more missed games

The W&M games were already postponed earlier in the week for COVID protocols. We were going to have 4 this week then the following weekend off.

Gotcha. So now we have 8 games to makeup right? Two weekends earlier, now two more?

That's why I put six missed games in my post.

We've only played six games, tested positive twice now, and have to make up as many games as we've played. Also means starting from scratch again, with two weeks without practice. Because of this idiotic schedule of back to back on weekends, we are forced to cram in back to back games right after those games. Doing that for three more weeks to finish this out just isn't doable. The entire thing is a cluster, and as usual the CAA has set this up to have the worst possible outcome, with no good way to make up missed games.

Spend the rest of the year practicing, getting players healthy and recruiting like hell.
I understand the sentiment, but UNCW should try to at least play its final two games with College of Charleston. You can’t penalize other teams if you’re healthy, which UNCW hopefully can be in 14 days. Sure, they can’t meet or practice in that time, but every game/practice is payment toward next season. I realize the frustration of being close to playing at Drexel, only to hafta bus 9 hours home, or today’s 3-hour ride back from Elon, with no game to show for it. I’m grateful for the games UNCW got to play. Chin up, we’ll get there.
What a Cluster. How many college students in the United States have actually died of Covid 19? I shudder to think how schools and the CAA would react to something that was really like the 1918 flu or worse.

Oh, well. Time to quit wasting money on my Flo Sports subscription and put toward something more productive, like booze....
I was going to buy it for a month starting with JMU games so I could watch the last month and the CAA tournament with one payment. But man with the CAA down this year and us testing positive every other GameDay its not worth the risk

About to cancel mine as well.

Deciding to voluntarily not play games would be bad for recruitment.

There are only 4 teams in action this week for the CAA. This format of Sat/Sun has become a complete disaster.

Also, the rapid tests that are given on game days are not as accurate as a regular test. Does the entire team get regular tests to be certain it wasn’t a false positive?
The stupidity of Colleges and Univesities completely ignoring "the science" makes me question everything they are about. They've acted ignorantly from the start and continue to do so today.

Agree 100% sir.
