Looks like we know who are joining the team.

The PR says 7 of the new players started at EMU in January. 12 of the signees are already here (meaning some like Bird earned scholarships while already being part of the program).

Hopefully we fill our vacant coaching and strength spots prior to the first week in March.

i would like to jump in and point out that Blaney has experience as an oline coach

A very early ranking of all 130 teams for 2021. A look at EMU's opponents (St. Francis isn't D-1 and was 6-6 in 2019, haven't had a winning record since going 7-5 in 2016).

130. UMass: Transfer portal, transfer portal, transfer portal – in both ways. The Minutemen are bringing in the parts, but they’re also losing a massive amount of players. Head coach Walt Bell has to keep battling to find something that works.

127. Bowling Green: The defense will be among the MAC’s most experienced, but the passing game has to start working.

123. Texas State: The offense is going to be a blast and the defense should be strong helped by the transfer portal. It’s going to be a more dangerous team.

121. NIU: The Huskies are still rebuilding in a loaded MAC West. Michigan State QB Rocky Lombardi helps, but they lose key transfers.

118. EMU: It’s the X factor team in the MAC with 23 starters expected back and with Cincinnati QB transfer Ben Bryant upgrading the position.

114. Miami: The RedHawk defensive front should be among the MAC’s best, and the passing game will be a plus.

113. Ohio: The Bobcats will have the offense to fight for the East title but the D line has to be more disruptive.

109. WMU: There are just enough key personnel losses to matter, but the offensive line should be among the MAC’s best.

108. CMU: Washington QB transfer Jacob Sirmon should instantly help the O, but it’ll be the defensive back seven that shines.

91. Ball State: The MAC champion returns the depth chart from the bowl win over San Jose State almost intact. The offensive line has to be better, though.

85. Toledo: It’s a LOADED team with 21 of the 22 starters projected to be back, but the defense can’t be the worst in the MAC again.

11. Wisconsin: Wisconsin should be back to being Wisconsin – there’s no way it will have the health issues of 2020 again. If all of the skill parts are in one piece – starting with the receiving corps – to go along with another great D, watch out.

Bottom line, most of our schedule is all ranking around the same spot. Should be a very fun season with some great games...which is nothing new after the past five seasons.
Ben Bryant is a nice transfer but Hutch is a damn good QB. It's his job to lose.

Agreed...but the competition at that position should benefit each. This could end up being the dominant 1-2 QB tandem in the MAC, regardless of who starts.

Hutch runs it a lot and he doesn't exactly slide very often. having a capable back up makes me feel A LOT better.

Absolutely. Doesn't look like a former h.s. baseball player.

some of the shots he took last year - i was surprised he didnt miss time hurt. i'm happy with the depth all over on offense really.

That's a very good point. CC has also used a 2-QB system in the past so maybe both will play.

i get flash backs of roback's diminished senior season. he played hurt (which is great) but also he was hurt (which is bad).

I’ve never been a fan of CC’s QB rotations — they prevent either player from getting into a rhythm.

What rotation? The last two years was Glass and Hutchinson?

What about before then? CC wasted Roback’s career with his rotation.

roback played in 34 games in his last three years - he got his reps.

I think he is referring to the Reggie Bell Jr experiment.

Okay. I wasn't going that far back.

I think we need to be careful when we discuss this. I'm going back into my memory bank.

2015: I believe C.C. sat Roback the first game, might have been 'team rules.'

Later he missed time after he got creamed by WMU (at Rynearson). Someone told me (might have been a PM or someone inside the Convo) but his injury was obvious and he sat out a game.

There was one other game for which I don't know why Roback didn't start.
