Being competitive is great! Yes, it's much better then 1996-2015! But, what's the goal at E Michigan????? 6-6, or to actually compete for MAC championships? CC is below .500 the past 5 seasons! Neu, Leipold, and Martin won MAC titles during that time frame, and all 3 were dead last not long ago in the MAC! We won MAC championships when I was student in late 80's, early 90's! We can't settle for being competitive! We've a very average schedule next season! We need A winning MAC record for sure in year 8!

If we finish 6-6 with the schedule next year, then CC needs to be let go........8-4 has to be the number! 3-1 OOC and 5-3 MAC is an absolute must in year 8! Did he list wins and loses?

He listed likely wins as: Saint Francis, UMass, BG

Toss-ups: Texas State (60%), Miami (Ohio) (60%), at NIU (50%), Ohio (42%), WMU (37%)

and Likely losses: Ball State (32%), at CMU (26%), at Toledo (25%), at Wisconsin (2%)

So he's saying Eastern is likely to win two games on the road and the rest of the road games are losses or toss-ups in which he doesn't favor the Eagles. I have to believe the Eagles will be better than a 2-4 road team.

I can recall when any EMU football coach going 6-6 would be nominated for saint hood. I think the last coach prior to CC having such a record was Rasnick.

No other MAC coach has had to overcome as much as CC has at Eastern when he took the job. All those other programs had winning streaks and,a much better reputation and foundation then EMU. EMU was considered the toughest and worst job in FBS. It was justified.
I see 6-6 as a realistic *floor* for the season. Hoping we can do better and land at 8-4 but it's not unreasonable for a national sportswriter who didn't watch our games last season to say our most likely outcome.

Agreed. Phil Steele is awesome and is accurate. I'm learning to stay away from the Athlon types and whoever this guy was that said 6-6. I'm confident in a 8-4 or 7-5 season. 6-6 would be a disappointment to be honest.

We need to raise the expectations. Stop being satisfied with .500 ball

It is ESPN's Bill Connelly who is doing all conferences for ESPN+ subscribers. He just did the MAC West.

Thank you! You nailed it! Stop making excuses E Michigan was the hardest coaching job! That was 8 years ago! CC has had his own players for 5 plus seasons! A winning MAC record of 5-3 is an absolute must!

BOOM! You are correct. How many other programs were featured on HBO with a professor spouting the idea that they should join the Horizon League and drop football? Neu, Leipold and Martin would have declined any interview for the EMU job.

Valid point, so do you give CC 12 years to win A MAC championship? Is a 6-6 record, and 4-4 the expectation then! Jerry, you're a very intelligent man, would your boss have given you a decade plus to perform a task at work? Meaning going into an under performing area at the company, and not seeing significant changes within 3 years! CC needs to have a significant record improvement!

Thanks for presenting a compelling argument and contrasting it to the business world. It opened my eyes, but only solidified my affection for Creighton.

Multi-unit national corporations have locations across the US. Some locations like Ann Arbor where I worked were lucrative and I made a great living. Units in Detroit and other depressed areas like Jackson, Pontiac, Adrian, River Rouge, etc... were not.

My boss used a different yardstick when measuring manager performance as a result. He was happy if his downtrodden locations turned any kind of profit as it was preferable to losing money. Expecting them to produce $500K in annual profit like Ann Arbor locations would be pure fantasy and as a result we rewarded them to stay for far less sterling results.

That is where we are at with Creighton. He does not have the donor money or the established fan interest of Toledo, or for that matter WMU. He is, however, by most accounts attempting to establish such a program and his results while paltry are "still in the black".

I'm not giving CC a free pass, but he had the balls to take over a program with no history, lousy facilities, no faculty support, paltry attendance and a storied P-5 program playing six miles west sucking up big potential donor dollars. Toledo, WMU and CMU, by contrast have large donor contributions as they are located in college sports deserts. Jason Candles' $1M contract is largely paid by those outside the University at Toledo.

That said, I agree with your basic premise, we simply cannot accept more seasons like we had last year. At a minimum, we do need to win the Michigan MAC trophy after 10 years of it residing elsewhere. Otherwise... we sucked before CC got here, but his best season is just five MAC wins, the same as Rasnick's and just one better than Genyk and English. Let's wait and see, I feel your pain my friend.

i would like to point out that frank solich hasnt actually won the MAC yet. He's won the division 4 times out of 16 seasons. Solich also didnt win a bowl game until his 7th season - and that was after losing 3 bowl game before.

The guy i compare CC to the most is Bill Snyder - who in 27 seasons only won the conference twice - his division 5 times - and has a stadium named after him.
