I'm getting excited about who RR is bringing in. I have friends from penn st saying we have a great coach. Now that remains to be seen. Will he go for it on his own 23 on 4th down or will he onside kick every chance he gets. Well, if he can stay away from that, he will be an improvement. Seriously, he is bringing in some really good talent and his whole staff is young and hungry. I can see a big improvement coming and we as monarch nation, if we are allowed, need to be filling that brand new, gorgeous stadium. Win or lose, we need to support our new coach and whether we are playing cusa, american, or fcs, this is our team and I guarantee we will not be disappointed. Let's get hyped, what do you think?
Question: IF ODU reverted to FCS, would that negate RRs contract?
If ODU reverted to FCS RR would be out before the press conference announcing it along with Slade, Mack and tons of others.
The FCS question is irrelevant at this point. I think We wouldn’t have built the stadium if that’s the case. I’d say the odds are better that we get invited to the AAC than go back to FCS. Staying CUSA, going to the SB or going Indy seems more likely than either.

Going back to FCS in my mind is a non-starter. All these outstanding player transfers into ODU that we've seen over the past season wouldn't have happened had FCS been in the cards. Even if you think this talk of FCS permeating the discourse is a recent phenomenon and occurred only after most of these recruits had committed to ODU, I bet you majority of these key recruits/transfers/coaches joining ODU will look to skip town should that ever bear some level of truth to it. None of that being in sight, I would almost bet the house going FCS ain't happening.
They are not going back
Agreed. I'm amped! Sadly I don't think I'm going to get season tix for the first time in a decade but that's not ODU's fault. That's life with 3 kids under the age of 9 and shifting priorities. =] But I will be trying to attend and watch as many games as possible.

I’ll probably be dropping from 4 (in 09) down to 1 (from 2 the last couple Years). Having a kid does throw a wrench into it for a while.

I agree just make sure you raise them to be monarch fans.
FCS? Ain't no way... Why?

I'm pumped. We had a whole year of practice to get ready for next year. I expect a huge step forward.
I'm excited about RR and his level of recruiting. But not sure that translates to success in 2021. Beat Wake, Buffalo, or Liberty, probably not. I have no idea how the Monarchs will compete in C-USA, but let's just say they break even. So perhaps 4-8 or 5-7 in 2021?
I am thrilled with what RR has been able to accomplish and very excited about a resumption of ODU FB next fall. Stepping down to FCS would be beyond stupid.

That’s how I see it. One more bad year. 3 or 4 wins. Problem is we should be much better in 2022, but the schedule that year is a murderers row. We may need to win 5 CUSA games and an FCS just to be bowl eligible. Hope Im wrong though.

This may be the dumbest question ever.
I wasn't implying or suggesting ODU would revert to FCS. It was a simple question out of curiosity. If an up and comer coach like RR signs to coach at the FBS level then something changes and the team drops down to FCS, would you expect his contract to be void?

It's only a dumb question to those who lack imagination
To answer the question I am optimistic about RR. Doing all the right things on paper. Looking forward to seeing the results.

Or lack of common sense. Sorry, but look at the money invested. The old stadium would do. We spent $20+million in modifications to play FCS football. But no way in hades would we have rebuilt Foreman Field into SB Ballard to revert back to FCS. We’re not jmu. We don’t build half stadiums.

The only way that changes is if the new President, whoever that may be, forces it. However, I don’t believe even our board of trustees is that freaking stupid to hire someone who will do that. If they were to then the big money donors will leave and never return. It would be a slap in the face to the money guys.

Generally, I agree, but we could always hire some younger woke academic nerd that hates sports and sees football as the epitome of "toxic masculinity". Chances are we hire someone that will pretty much follow the status quo, but you just never know these days.

What? Carry on, because you clearly can't see what ODU is trying to accomplish. I think they'll pull it off.

If ODU intended to go independent and didn't disclose that to Ricky Bobby, would he have grounds to leave without penalty?
