Danny White is the new TN AD.

I think this is a very solid hire for TN, though his vocal G5 stuff is interesting if he is flipping sides now. But great hires on his resume.

I am not a UT fan, but I do live in Nashville. I agree that it is a good hire for two reasons: 1) He has made good hires in the past. 2) I have not heard a peep one way or the other since the hire, which means he is likely not a blowhard. All I know is that he has been conferencing with the players to ask what they need in a coach.

If he can avoid wasting time appeasing any Tennessee donor, fan, politician, or student who is not an athlete until the deal is finalized, I think there is a chance for a successful hire.
Many campuses are using search firms to prepare a list of coaching candidates, including for assistant positions. It often suggests people who have made themselves available for new offers. Some still use the broad-based, and often politically structured, search committees whereby name "leaks" may abound. Still others keep it close to the vest, and the AD and school President choose, keeping input within close parameters.

I don't know Tennessee's full approach this time. But they will be careful and strategic, and keep the process very controlled, but with certain aspects being public as needed

I believe Tennessee will stay away from controversial guys with significant baggage. Yet, the choice will look promising.

From everything I'm seeing, the choice is truly DW's, but the firm vetts and makes the back-channel communication so TN has plausible deniability "We never talked to..." and so no unknown baggage comes out later.
