He said Penny clearly can recruit - no problems there and you don't need help there - but Penny continues to run the offense and it's not working. Nor has running the offense with a crew he currently has. He desperately needs to bring his someone new with a track record of accomplishment. He said there are plenty of offensively minded and proven coaches who would take a position at Memphis. He just has to admit the deficit and correct the problem.
Penny needs to find his Vance Walberg gimmick and John Robic assistant.

I don't think it is all the offense.

These kids are not improving skillwise. Someone needs to be brought in who can teach these kids fundamental skills and strategies (individualized) that will put them in winning positions. Outrunning your man to the rim isn't going to cut it for this group.
It's not the Xs and Os, it's the Jimmy and Joes.

Sure it is. Now answer how it is that highly recruited/rated players who all excelled before coming to Memphis, got to Memphis and all of a sudden became the problems? I dont mean 1 player didnt work out, or 2, I mean the entire team from top to bottom have not lived up to their recruitment potential.

Explain that and then I will agree it is the Jimmy and Joes.

Or don't even publicly admit a problem and assign/take blame. Just hire the right person for the open position he will have on his staff and let them go to work.

Lester has lived up to his ranking...

DJ is close...

Moussa's ranking obviously was 100% based on potential.

But Penny didn't build a team. He didn't recruit any highly skilled guys
Lomax - Low Skill (no Shot)
Tyler - mediocre Skill...No feel
Lester - mediocre Skill
Precious - Low Skill
Wiseman - Highly Skilled (but we all know how that ended)
Baugh - Low skill
DJ - Best skill for his size (but really not improving)
Malcolm - Mediocre Skill (But at least he seems to understand the game)
Moussa - Low Skill
Junior - Mediocre Skill (Good IQ)
Deandre - Good Skill
Nolley - Good Skill (Well I thought he was better than he is performing right now)
Lance - Low Skill

And none of these guys have improved greatly under Penny. If Penny is going to target long athletes he better have a plan on teaching them how to play basketball. He isn't recruiting a track team.

yep, you are right, Lester. Although if I remember correctly LQ was a high scorer in highschool, but either way, I am happy with LQs play.
So what I'm hearing is, we need to hire someone to implement an offense, develop players, and evaluate talent better. Seems like there ought to be a website or something where coaches who need all that stuff could go.

I'll take " what a head BB coach does" for 500 Alex--RIP
Alabama 60 at the 1/2-against LSU----more @ the half than we have been scoring for game.

They shoot the ball every 14 seconds---we take it down to under 10 and throw up a wild 2 usually.

Announcer just said Ala. runs exciting fast paced (RASSLIN )NBA style BB

I don't see how LQ and DJ have lived up to the expectations of top 30-40 sophomores. I mean they haven't been awful like some but it could be a lot better. DJ should really be on draft boards now and LQ should be creeping up there in 2022.

LQ has been fine. A top-50 player isnt a surefire NBA player in year 2. Plus he is the type of player who needs a decent offense to max his potential

DJ has basically been playing for the other team.

It’s the Xs and Os. Our offense seems totally disorganized and lacking in confidence.

You would think that this would be Penny’s specialty.

He has learned that you cannot run an NBA offense with college level talent. He has not reverted to his Lion offense. He is quickly finding out that you cannot run a high school level offense against college level players, especially when your high school offense was predicated on having players that were infinitely more talented than pretty much every team they played.
What 3-4 ? games ago Penny said he was taking charge of the offense---called the lion offense . You say he has not done that---has he done that ?

Ala beat LSU tonight by 30. Not that announcers know much-LOL-but he said that Ala runs a NBA offense ---also they shoot the ball within 14 seconds. If that's true---how come they are successful running a NBA offense and we are not ?

I thought we've only played 1-2 games with our "new offense".

You also didn’t know we played Sunday, so there’s that.
