My father was in the marines in the early 1950s. I am trying to find any info about his service. I have his SSN but not his service number.

I have tried the National Archives. The operate at a glacial pace and are now even slower as they are considered non-essential.

There was a 2nd guy in the marines, in Korea about the same time with the same first name, last name and middle initial. I believe the archives sent me the other guys info as the medals don't match what I have in pictures.

I've tried Ancenstry and some other sites but without the SN I can't tell if I am looking at the right records.

I've tried some Facebook user groups but they all refer me to the National Archives.

Any ideas on how I might find a service number?

Thanks!!
I'd try the VA and VFW. They may not have immediate answers but should be able to steer you in the right direction.
Maybe this?
Records Request

It says for the actual Marine to contact but perhaps there is a way for a family member, particularly if the Marine is deceased?

Good luck with your search.
