Has anybody heard anythig about the Egg Bowl? Sems like I read something about the contract with ESPN to air it on Thanksgiving night was up after last year, and that it would have to be re-newed to keep it there. ESPN.COM does not list it as one of the games it will air for this up-coming season, which seems strange.
I HAVEN'T HEARD ANYTHING, I WOULD BE HAPPY IF THE NIGHT WAS CHANGED DUE TO FAMILY REASONS BUT I KNOW THE NATION NEEDS IT'S FIX OF FOOTBALL ON THANKSGIVING NIGHT AS WELL.
I WONDER WHAT IMPACT IT WOULD OR WOULD NOT HAVE ON MS.?
If I remember correctly, I thought I'd heard that E$PN renewed our Egg Bowl contract, for at least two years. I'll try and find that.

I'm with you GW, makes it hard being on T-giving and all to make any solid plans with the family. I'm ok with it when it's in Oxford, because most of my family is at the game anyway. But, they don't usually make the trek to Starkville, so makes for difficult planning. And besides, when we lose to State especially on Turkey Day, it ruins our whole Thanksgiving. My wife, for one, has begged and pleaded with that game to move to the following Saturday. If we win, I'm ok, but if we lose......
Perhaps this is due to my being young and dumb without any big familial values yet but I truly cherish the Thanksgiving timing. Every year I rush through an early T-day meal with my family and haul keester to either S---town or Heaven (depending on year, of course). My friends and I go to the game and do the whole college student thing for the rest of the night. Then we wake up about noon and I rush home to land on my couch as the Arkansas-LSU game kicks off that afternoon. It's a friggin' tradition. I understand that nationally, most people couldn't give a rat's patoot about the Egg Bowl but at least it's usually competitive -- which can't be said for some of the rivalry games which might replace it on ESPN. Let it be known here and now, if ESPN drops/dropped the Egg Bowl on Thanksgiving night, I will assault Lee Corso in a hail of potato-gun and paintball-gun glory the next time he ventures into the Magnolia State. 03-cool

What a coincidence . . . I have three weapons of mass mischief and three people (myself included) willing to utilize them. 'Tis a sign if ever there was one.

Found this on the Sun-Herald site, dated just after our last Egg 11/29/02:

ESPN deal - Thursday's game was the fifth televised by ESPN on Thanksgiving night. The series is scheduled to be telecast again next year which will end the contract between the schools and ESPN. As of now, ESPN is expected to offer a new contract to the schools.

Doesn't give any definite intentions by E$PN, but I'm still looking.
Gracias. 04-cheers
The official MSU site has the Egg Bowl listed as a Thanksgiving night game televised by ESPN.

wyd, we know that this year is covered by E$PN, we were wondering about future Egg Bowls, have you heard about after this year? I've looked and can't find any confirmation one way or the other. 03-confused

My bad. I don't think that next year's game has been picked up by anyone. A few years ago there was talk that CBS wanted to pick the game up after ESPN's contract ran out. Now that MSU has tanked the last couple of seasons, I doubt that CBS wants it anymore. I would bet that ESPN is going to wait until the season is over to decide if they want future games.

Personally, I'd rather have the games on Saturday.
Regardless of wins and losses, I always feel better when I leave Dudy Noble than when I arrive. There are few places of which this can be said. - John Grisham

I believe most of us Rebels could say that!!! :D

But back to the egg bowl telecast, ,maybe, just maybe, between Ole Ms and Ms State we can generate enough interest on the national scene to get picked up by one of the big 3 if ESPN drops the egg bowl. Of course with State running 3-8 and Ole Ms running 7-4 it still adds up to 10/12, not very impressive is it? But if ESPN bails, all we can do is cry in our 04-cheers

I will help with that too, but they don't even have to quit airing the game to give me the reason. :D
Is everyone sure about this year? ESPN has the games they are showing already listed on the website, but we aren't on there for Turkey Day! They have all of the bowl games they are going to show, also. Just seems odd that they wouldn't have our game on there, as well.

Yes, that quote I found from the Sun Herald said we are picked up for one more year, this year, and after that, is the question:

ESPN deal - Thursday's game was the fifth televised by ESPN on Thanksgiving night. The series is scheduled to be telecast again next year which will end the contract between the schools and ESPN. As of now, ESPN is expected to offer a new contract to the schools.
So yes, we are contracted with E$PN for this year's game, I'm not sure why E$PN hasn't listed it yet.
I'll see it regardless. It is one of the few good games on Thanksgiving day....it will be there loss!
