That UTSA coach should have won the award.
How do get fired after winning Coach of the Year?03-drunk
Most coaches get a bonus for winning conference COY. Is Marshall going to pay the bonus as Doc leaves? Hearing the interview of the new prospective coach when the AD states "Yes, Doc had a winning record and won COY, but that was not good enough for us" might be interesting.
He must have said the "magic word" during those extension negotiations. Kinda like getting tossed by the umpire
Stockstill is looking to hire our TE coach Joe Craddock as the MTSU offensive coordinator

back the hell off our dude, Stockstill
Can’t get rid of Vincent or the offensive scheme, unfortunately.

Craddock is an MTSU alum
Wonder who Marshall goes after?

He'd be crazy to do it. He's going to be on several short lists for NFL coaching jobs in the near future.
Surely they haven’t settled for choosing between Leftwich and Pennington
I wouldn’t think they’d fire their coach without having a new one basically lined up

Auburn 05-hide
Don’t worry, their AD will send out an email for damage control after multiple sources report that 4-5 guys had been offered and turned down the job.

Then travel 2000 miles away and say this was always our top guy.

Also, can’t laugh at Marshall. We needed a technicality just to make it, to play them.

I’m willing to eat some humble pie as we celebrate a championship victory.

If it’s in his contract, then yes, they are. Contracts are legally binding documents.

I don’t blame Marshall one bit if they at least call Leftwich, they’d be dumb not to.

Whenever Byron Leftwich is mentioned, I remember the game in which he was an injured QB and unable to walk or run so two linemen formed an arm sling and carried him from play to play during a drive. I don't remember the opponent or the score, but I will always remember the grit he showed, and the loyalty his players showed in supporting him.

Doc Holliday is out after Marshall does not extend his contract. He was this season’s Conference USA Coach of Year.

Holliday was given 3 goals to meet at the beginning of the year:

1) Acceptable APR score (980)
2) Team GPA 2.75 (3.03)
3) Conference Title (None)

If all 3 weren't met, no extension. Goals 1 and 2 were met, goal 3 as you know wasn't.

One championship in 11 years at Marshall was finally unacceptable. This was also the president Dr Jerome Gilbert's decision.

I would take either one of them as HC. But Pennington is busy being a HC in Lexington KY and says that he wants to coach all of his boys in HS and Leftwich is just a few steps away from a HC position in the NFL. Neither are a realistic option at this time.

That was a game against Akron that Marshall lost 34-20. And it was linemen Steve Sciullo and Steve Perretta who carried him down the field.

Thanks for putting names with vivid memories. Very few programs have such obvious "WE ARE MARSHALL" type opportunities in their history. One does not have to be a Marshall fan to appreciate that day's example of devotion..
